    Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all the Ranchers clan. With moving back to Alberta this year we were busier than a puppy with 2 peckers. But it was sure nice to be close to family again, and be able to enjoy time with lots of them over the holidays. All the best to you folks in 2019.

    Tour

Wish I was still there some days Sean. Would have been good to see you. Ben, Ken and all those crews are doing good things to keep costs down. That's become a necessity more than ever I think. David Hays and a couple others are having real good luck grazing standing corn for winter feeding too...

Wolf hunt cancelled, rancher forced to move sheep

No mention of dogs being used or any other form of protection for the sheep. Seems odd.

    As seen on TV

I made a rig a few years ago with a 12v water pump from an old RV trailer. I put a short section of hose on the suction end to put into a pail of hot water, and on the outlet side I use 1/4" air brake hose, about 50' of it, and run it inside the water line. Hook the pump to a battery and the hot...

    Merry Christmas From the Mountains

Ya Hayguy, Hardisty had a -42 windchill this morning when we spoke to my parents. They weren't real impressed when I said it was -10 here in BC. Another winter like this in Alberta and they'll be looking for real estate out here too!

    Merry Christmas From the Mountains

Hey Dave, the climate here is certainly agreeing with us. Right around zero again today, cows are out grazing, horses are laying in the sun, and I almost feel guilty about sitting in front of the fire with a coffee watching movies with the kids.....almost.

    Right Hand Drive SUV's

Hi Folks, Anybody have experience with a right hand drive SUV like a Mitsubishi Montero or Toyota HiLux? Or know of a forum with good info a guy can do a little research with? We're looking at a Montero we found, that a guy imported from Japan a couple years ago. It's in mint shape, I just don't...

Merry Christmas 2012 from the Soapweed outfit

Merry Christmas Soapweed crew. Fine looking bunch. Wish we could share a bit of our snow with you. 2' on the level, had to bring cows closer to home because plowing snow to get feed out to them was taking more time than feeding. Hope you're all having a wonderful day.

    Montana Trip

I had to stop and check out the renovated store in Avon. The lady who owns it said she and her husband ranch 6 miles north of Avon. She makes some of the prettiest quilts I've ever seen and sells them in the store. I've seen lots of the world, very few places look as good as home. That valley is...

    Montana Trip

They told me US citizens don't need one to sell to Canadians, it's the other way around. I asked what would happen if the US buyer had driven 10 miles into Canada, met me for the bull and tried to take him back. THey said he would have had to get his own account through a broker in order to buy...

    Montana Trip

Yeah it was daylight, can't say I'm brave enough to visit a cemetery in the dark. lol Those beaverslide stackers are pretty neat. There were haystacks from last year still standing in a meadow on one outfit. Had to stop and read the "Historical Point" sign that tells the story of the "Valley of...

    Montana Trip

Sorry I didn't look any of you up on my trip this week. I planned to, until I got to the border. Had all my paperwork in order for the USDA vet and state ag folks, then I met the Customs and Border Protection Agency. My, my, they are a sweet bunch. In 2 months of bloodwork, paperwork and...

    Trip

I hear you RSL. It's no different here, very few youngsters on combine crews, other than the Hutterites. THe local custom harvester brought in some other custom guys to help him get it all done. There were 9 combines doing my Grandads wheat across the road from us, and 9 more to the west of us...
