    Pasture rent

What is a sustainable pasture rental rate and type of arrangement? Is it per pair per day, grasser per day, lb of gain or $ per acre or per season? Assume renter and landlord both want a long term relationship and both want to make some money. Thank you for your thoughts and experiences. For a...

    Replacing commercial fertilizer with manure

Imo, you can think about manure in two parts. First is the nutrients that are plant available in the year of application. (incorporating or moisture shortly after application reduces some nutrient loss) The second is the effect on the soil structure, improving tilth and moisture holding capacity...

Bale grazing vs. swath grazing cereals vs stock piling?

Here is how I get 20% utilization, my thought process maybe flawed so i want to share it to add to the discussion. I am a rookie rancher. Denominator or 100% utilization is my average hay yield put up in early mid july. Let's say 3000 lbs/acre on long term yr avg. Numerator: i assume my cows...

I most likely will use temp fencing to divide up those 160 acre paddocks to smaller temporary paddocks as we move forward...

    plant names

There is no easy way i know of, their common names of which there can be several regional common names for the same plant, bear little clues as to the latin binomial name. Other than Canada & USA, farmers and ranchers use the latin names when describing plants.

    Round Bale feeding...need experience

we feed with two bale processors and there is very little waste. In fact they will eat some of the lower quality or older hay if processed that would be left if unrolled with a deck or tractor. We field feed 400 cows in one bunch and 2 and 3 year old cows in another field. Both are within a 1.5...
