Those tufts of grass out in the cattlepasture.....?'s

I realize that this probably isn't feasible for a very large ranch or in real rough country, but a "once over" with a set of harrows in late fall or early spring, will bust up those pies and eliminate those tufts that the cattle won't eat. :)

    Chokecherry trees

I have been told that the poison in chokecherries only accumilates in the pits(seeds). I don't remember if it is cyanide or strichnine. But a person or a bovine would have to eat a $shitload of pits for it to be toxic. At least that is what I was told. I've seen bears and coyotes pigging out on...

    #$%^&$# Lake Traffic!

Sounds like a plan Chris, but I think we'd probably have to get them good and drunk before they would breed with them Texas 'hoppers.

  Which part of "power-enema" do you not get? :D  (Hint- It was not pleasant). Oak Lake is the lake I live near. We take the boys quite often and head down there in the middle of the week. Way less people. :D

    #$%^&$# Lake Traffic!

The temp. here is right at 90F right now and about 60% himidity. We need a rain BAD as well. I got a 1/4 section of alfalfa that I sowed this spring that will probably die if it doesn't rain and or cool down in the next few days. Grasshoppers are getting bad too. At least we don't have any...

    #$%^&$# Lake Traffic!

"Power-enema" would describe the one and only time I ever tried water skiing. 'Nuff said??? :D I was sort of looking for an excuse to shut'er down anyway. Been going pretty hard haying. This heat is tough on an old guy like me. :D

    #$%^&$# Lake Traffic!

Started hauling bales home at daylight this morning. Going great guns. A/C putting out good in the tractor and an awesome stereo. Life was good. I live on a gravel road that leads to a popular lake resort. The traffic is getting so bad I had to quit hauling. Holiday trailers, SUV's etc. , they...

    Silage Experiment

Mike- "I'm bettin it will be fine if it wasn't too big and rank when you cut it. It might surprise some of us to know the food value in some weeds, especially at a young stage." If I decide to get keen and get feed tests done this year, I will let you know the results on this stuff,(you...

    Silage Experiment

I have a field, that I was going to summerfallow this year, and seed down to grass ,late this fall. It got flooded when we got all that rain and I couldn't touch it. It grew a good crop of thistle, clover, wild millett, foxtail, volunteer rye, grass, and about 50 other kinds of weeds while I...

Here is a link to the Anderson wrapper site. We use a tube-line wrapper but their website didn't have a decent picture on it!! They are basicly the same though. http://www.anderson-machineries.com/English/inlinebalewrapper.html Sorry, I can't get the hot link to work. Copy and paste the above...

    How is your haying going

I put up 800 to 1000 bales of round bale silage every year. I thing it is great. I'll see if one of the bale wrapper manufacturers has a website and post a link on here. Two manufacturers that I know of are "Tube-line" and "Anderson".

    Seeding Alfalfa

George, Some guys around here swear by seeding 1/2 rate one way and the other 1/2 90 degrees to the first pass. Some even sow full rate one way and then just pull their press drill across empty at a right angle to the first pass. I'm going to try a couple variations on that theme next spring on...

    Electric fencers

Bill- "Anyone with experience with the Parmak brand of fencers?" I have a Parmak fencer. It is 6volt battery/solar. I'm not sure how many joules. I use it on a 1/4 section of crossfenced pasture and it has plenty of zap for that. It is all in one unit (energizer, battery and solar panel)...

    Electric fencers

I have several electric fencers. A 110 volt one that I use where I can plug it in, and a couple solar/battery powered ones for out in no-man's land. They all work good. One of them, is fencer/solar panel and battery, all in one unit. Very handy!!!!! I believe the brand name is Parmak,or...

Val-Mar or other dry applicators ????

BMR, If it is a quack grass hybrid it should do well here!!!! I do battle with quack grass on a regular basis,in other fields, and I nearly always lose!!!! I broke up a piece of alfalfa ground,a couple years ago, that the quack grass had taken over. We were pulling up soooo much quack grass...
