    Soapweed-type story

The first story brought back memories from many years ago. A neighbour with a similar problem heifer snuck up behind her and slipped the chain on one foot. He had slid the other end of the chain loop around his wrist so as to be ready to slip it on the second foot as soon as he could. Well the...

    Fun visit

Hi Nicky; We are excited to have met another Rancher.net family. We really enjoyed our short visit. Your cattle and the facilities that you have built look great. They should both serve you very well. It is nice to see new calves that are doing so well and look so happy and healthy. It is...

    Hot Day

    F. Horses. We never even got a single drop of rain out of that one at the farm. Do not know about Per. Some people got as much as 6 to 8 inches of hail. What I saw was up to 5/8 inch in diameter with lots of wind, but I heard reports of 1 and 1/2 inch hail balls. They had to bring out the...

    Temperature inversions

I have seen a 30*F rise in 3 minutes, and two feet of snow leave in an afternoon and never even got the ground wet. :) :)

    Lot size

Start by gate splitting them into three pens each evening. A lot easier to look and work with 50 at a time.

    PLEASE BE SAFE

I also had a front window on a tractor explode. I saw a small piece of mud fly up and hit the window. All it would have taken is for the little girl to bang her head or elbow on the glass and stress and fatigue would do the rest. So sad and our hearts go out to the family.

    Helping out

Just look to High River Alberta, and we thank the hundreds and hundreds of volunteers that have stepped in to help clean up the mess after the flood. There were about ten from one group that came down the in-laws basement stairs into the 6 to 8 inches of silt and muck left by 8 feet of water...

    Well Water Woes

Chances are the 8 inch casing is only a surface casing. It probably is much smaller at the bottom. We redeepened one well by 20 feet with a giant air pump (maybe 400 cubic ft per min.) You should have seen the crud and rocks and sand come out. Only took about an hour. Worked perfectly ever...

    Hfr question

Put her on a very very strick diet till she calves, and minimal water for several days. If it should turn into vaginal prolasp and you have to sew her up, a trocar for a needle and covered copper wire for thread works well.

    Sorting pairs

I have used that idea for reuniting pairs after branding. Slpit the cows into their respective heards for breeding in two adjacent pens, with that style of gate between the two pens, return calves to the cows with about half the calves going to each pen. Inside a couple of hours almost...

    2008 F350 Blown Motor

My solution would be to remove the radiator cap and slide a new GMC under it. We have a 2009 1 ton dually diesel with the 6 speed allison transmission. we love it

    Ten thousand dollar screw-up

Sorry about your building & fences.... at least you still have the large building. It is unfortunate when these buildings are designed with snow loads in mind that they are also not designed with wind lifts taken into consideration. Many years ago a freak south wind got our calving shed and...
