    Growing Bull

Just a thought but have you considered AI'ing your better cows and keeping heifers out of them while using him or his brother as a cleanup bull. . As stated by the previous poster it looks like maybe your cows did the hard work.

    Crossbreeding in an angus world

I just had a conversation a few days ago with another Red Angus breeder who had switched from or gotten rid of all his South Devons. It was a carbon copy of ewverything you said about them. Having said that Let me tell you I have been to the Gould Ranch and seen the Irish Blacks with my own...

    Crossing red angus and shorthorn

My partner and I are looking into doing just what you have proposed, our only holdup is needing to find a Red Angus bull that will not be a problem for Brisket disease. I am open to suggestions for a good breeder in the Colo area. I drove thru LaJunta last monday and saw what looked like some...

    Feeding Straw

Straw with Cake. Works great. We fed it all winter one year when we had no hay. Best calves we ever had. You probably want a high protein cake though.

    Calving Ease

Welcome to my world. We just went thru 2 years of hell because of a bull that was just as you described. A Gelbvieh who never threw a calf over 90 lbs and most were in the 70's. We pulled every one on the heifers and a couple on the old cows. Awful good calves crossed on Shorthorn cows but...

AYour Breed of Cattle....From another thread

I'm not sure what their feeding program consists of, everything I saw except for one group of 9 or 10 long yearlings, was on grass. They have changed to a fall calving program so that they can sell 1.5 year old bulls in Jan every year. My understanding is they start at aroung $4000 and go up...

AYour Breed of Cattle....From another thread

The Irish Blacks and Reds were developed from Freisians starting about 25 yrs ago by a gentleman by the name of Maurice Boney. He is 88 now lives up by Johnstown Colo and is still a pisscutter. I went out to the farm where they keep the Irish Black cowherd in Aug. These are some seriously thick...

AYour Breed of Cattle....From another thread

I'm guessing they don't always make the age spec but, they are heck on the weight spec. They DO NOT want large ribeyes. When I got back into cows I couldn't understand why that was prized so high, and I still don't. We're playing with Gelbvieh/Shorthorn crosses, they might make the carcass...

AYour Breed of Cattle....From another thread

If anyone's interested here's the straight skinny on what sells at the wholesale level. Using ribeyes as an example MOST of the time the 12.5 and up lipon ribeyes sell for 3cents to 50cents a lb. less than 12.5 and down. The reason being plate coverage and steak thickness, nobody wants to sell...

Tried this product last year with a heifer that wouldn't take her own calf. She fell in love with him about 15 min after we sprinkled it on his back didn't use the milk tho. However getting her milk thru him is a must, I don't think you need to rub the crap on her nose she can smell it on him...
