    Mixing bulls

Denny, Ya, we built one. Problem is, most of the time the one getting rode is dumber than the rest and keeps going back for more. No one ever said, cattle are smart :)

    Mixing bulls

If their is a good way to do it, let me know. We summer around 150 bulls on grass that we will make 2 year olds out of that sell in our sale, and then we also winter another 150 bulls we sell as yearlings. Nothing worse than a group of bulls. I always say, every rancher should have to summer...

    "Creating/Inflating EPD's"

Weaning early will affect adjusted 205 day weight, but it won't affect EPD's. EPD's are built a parental averages first and then it takes the ratios of each category into affect. Example. If the adjusted 205 is 700 lbs and average 205 day weight is 650 lbs. The 700 lbs calf will ratio...

    Feeding the cows

We have our bred heifers on Anipro liquid feeds on grass now. We will probably take them off of it after the tanks are empty this time and feed them oat and sorgum hay as the grass will start to run low in their pasture. We could feed Anipro or cake to the cows, but we have ALOT of hay this...

    Feeding the cows

We started feeding the February and March calvers a little this week. We are giving them 1 bale of oats hay, 1 bale of grass/clover hay, and 1 bale of sudan grass. This only comes to about 10 lbs a piece. They have lots of grass still standing in the pasture, but since we are on the third...

    Video of Customers Bred Heifers

Last fall and winter we purchased on order close to 1000 head of replacement heifer calves for Summit Farms from our bull customers. They sold the first 200 head for an average of $3475 last week. Here is a video of what they have left. I think they are pretty darn impressive. Click on the...

    Calf Prices! WOW!!!

You buyer needs to go to the store and price meat out, and figure out how much more she would be paying if she bought meat at the store pound for pound. They would really be shocked!

    Calf Prices! WOW!!!

We had a customer sell on Superior today so I hung out and watched the sale for a while. These prices are amazing, on all classes of cattle! Our customer sold 5 loads weighing 610 lbs and they got $237.50, and then they sold 1 load weighing 510 lbs and got $257.50! If I remember correct, last...

A good customer from CO just sold on Superior's country page this AM. They will be early Oct delivery, suppose to weigh 650 lbs, and just sold for $2.12. We have another customer from western SD who listed them on the country page as well. I just placed a bid on them on order, weighing 660...

Which sale to put in for?

I was visiting with a bigger order buyer a few weeks ago, he told me his is contracting 600 lbs steers for fall delivery from $1.98 to $2.05. I would venture to guess they will be higher at auction later on, as they don't normally give the top prices off the farm. But I would agree with the...

    Red Angus bull question

I would say he is about average as he doesn't mind us being around him and so far his offspring have been good as well. BUT, not many Angus bulls, red or black, can compare to the disposition of a good Hereford

    Red Angus bull question

From what I have seen, I feel he is one of the better bulls the breeds has seen. We have not used him, but we have a son that we purchased and have used now for 3 seasons. We will use him the hardest of all sires this year. We are hoping to get 100+ calves out of him in our Feb/March group...

    Share Cows

Lots of good ranchers started this way. Its not a bad thing to not have a big payment to a bank. Probably better if you can afford to buy them yourself, but with these prices, a share deal might be best or at least less risk for you.
