    Thick Placenta suffocating newborn calves

Hmmmm...selenium was lacking here and I had placenta issues with my cattle. Once I upped the selenium, all issues went away. I dunno, but good luck to ya

    Thick Placenta suffocating newborn calves

Selenium. You need to get selenium into those cattle next go'round. Either by injection or by mineral lick. Injection works faster ( of course) .

    insure Angus bull

Gestation is NOT a perfect science in any breed, in any cow, on any day!!! You can have a close idea of when....but never exact

I miss the old days on Political Bull

I loved it!! They really put on a great show!! I like Lusk. I won't be in WY this summer, too much on this side of the Mississippi this year . I'd love to be able to see it again, maybe next summer. I like seeing all the teams.

    Branding Etiquette

I saw those same statements and had the same thoughts as you but didn't post that as I would get jumped on by the " real" cow people here for saying such.

    Branding Etiquette

What few I worked was in Neb. for some of our neighbors....our ranch never branded our cattle. I was always the smallest sized woman there so I ended up working with the kids or doing a kid job!! ;-)

    Branding Etiquette

After attending and working a few ropings I never understood why people got their feelings hurt if they couldn't rope...or if the owner ropes. After all they are HIS cattle and it's happening on HIS place....and I , probably mistaken of course, thought the main point of it all was to get the...

    Bottle Calf bloating

I always give bloating calves Thera-Bloat....and I follow up with a health dose of Maloxx or Kaopectate with a bit of Gatorade. Problems seem to fix themselves after that.

    Angus genetic defect update

It is a defect.....a recessive allele.. and it does exist and calves can be born with this, BUT IT IS RARE.........but it is just that RECESSIVE. It has existed since bovines have existed as it had to come from somewhere, it just didn't ' happen' all of a sudden. Much ado about nothing...

    Angus genetic defect update

Me, better than most, know and understand that you have to have some way to rule out bad genetic issues....BUT...you CAN NOT sweep the genetic pool clean of EVERYTHING. Take a page from history, Hitler tried...didn't go so well!! :-) Plus, the AAA has seen a LARGE drop in memberships and...

    Angus genetic defect update

Common sense has been replaced with the Chicken Little syndrome in not only the Angus breed but all breeds. But, as seen in so many issues, people will not use these things as a tool....they will freak out and blow it way out of line. Funny how these " issues" always get announced just as...

    Angus genetic defect update

THIS IS NOT A " real" PROBLEM.....it never was....it never will be.

    Angus genetic defect update

This is so NOT an issue it's funny. There is NO WAY you can get each and evey itty bitty tiny ' blip' out of the genetic soup of ANY critter. This is a recessive ....it plainly states that in his research paper. The odds of this are so small, but they are there. Do you realize just...
