    fescue foot and other pics

I feed "fescue mineral" when the cattle want to stand in the water - - - about 4 months of the year in central Indiana - - - If not the cattle will stay in the water and not eat and lose weight in grass that is belly high - - - don't know if it would work for you or not - - - Purina sells a lot...

Some pics and maybe a video or two...

The days I hate here are the ones in the upper 30s to lower 40s with 30 mph wind and rain blowing - - - we get a few each year and luckly for my cows I have enough space in the loafing shed I can put out a few square bales of hay and they get to stay inside and wait it out.

You are going to have to invest in an extended ranger with a back seat! Nothing better than a "herd" of grand-kids - - - my next is due 7-7-17 - - - My grandson is disappointed as he has 6 cousins and all are girls - - - this is a girl as well!

    Late April 2017

With a small herd like mine it is interesting how moms and daughters band together 2 and 3 generations really are buddies - - - so far I have not had cows stealing from their moms but the calves all seem to migrate from one cow to the next - - - quite common to see a cow with 3 and sometimes 4...

I do not like to see any white on an udder - - - seems like about calf # 5 and the udder is going bad. Cows with solid black seem to keep a good udder way longer.

On equipment you need in the cold cut one heater hose, put hydraulic quick couplers in the line, do the same with your pick-up truck. Then make a couple of 20' heater hoses with one male and one female coupler on each. Drive your pick-up up to the cold equipment and hook them together, your...

When I used to feed small square bales I loved snow about that depth - - - I took the beaters off an old manure spreader, stacked the hay in the baled with all the twine removed, hooked the spreader behind a grader blade. The floor chain would slowly move the hay out the back and I could...

    Clipping pastures

I would think the mower would level the fire ant hills - - - but that might not be good as they might spread? The stump jumpers on this mower are 4' in diameter and 1/2" thick and the gear boxes are rated for a 160 HP tractor so I would think it would handle them like the mounds around ground...

    Clipping pastures

I moved the cattle for the first time this year today - - - 14 cows and calves and 3 heifers I'm going to breed in June made quick work of 7 acres - - - I like to clip them as soon as I move the cattle off - - - Even clipping at least 3 times a year and the wooded pasture I bulldozed in 2003...

    Fall and Winter

I have been trying to talk my son into insulating his work shop but he feels it is cheaper to just burn more fuel - - - We do not agree on everything!

A few pictures from this morning

I have almost always had to make my own stuff - - - or buy from a junkyard and salvage what I need - - - That looks like you did a great job, I hope you had a youngster around to help so you can pass on your skills!
