A bit of snow? 20" Being from Louisiana originally, I'd be dead in an hour. :D

    Desert disguised as Canada (Pictures)

 Unbelievable that anything can survive under those conditions.

She's going on the market July 2013

Thanks Andybob! I'm proud to say that I know of no other ranch within many miles of here that is as well-prepared for drought as mine. I haven't yet stocked my ponds but have already lined up the fry I'll need when the timing is right. I'm going to be stocking with a local fish that does well...

She's going on the market July 2013

Soap, Hayguy, Andybob......you guys are all correct, of course. I'd probably be nuts to sell the place unless I can get someone to make an offer that I can't refuse.:D My current plans are to really spruce the place up between Jan and May, repairing, cleaning, and painting my fences and...

She's going on the market July 2013

Andybob, when I started clearing the place in Jan of 2007 I knew I was going to need plenty of water because the summers here can be really brutal. I drilled a 300 foot 8" water well and started constructing farm ponds. When I finally finished with all the dozer work, I had completed a total...

She's going on the market July 2013

Mel, The rule of thumb here in this zone is about 2 head per hectare. Just a few miles to the east, they can stock double that because there's a lot more rainfall.....a few miles to the west they'd cut that number in half because it's much drier. My place is sort of on a cusp between...

She's going on the market July 2013

This past year, for others, I planted almost 300 acres of bermuda here and in the neighboring state of Monagas. Virtually none of these landowners will ever bale it themselves so it'll provide the basis for my custom baling activites. Coupled with continued planting, fumigating, and baling...

She's going on the market July 2013

I don't mind anyone asking gcreekrch. My place is just shy of 1000 acres so as the big ranches go, it's not even on the radar screen. What the place does have going for it is lots of infrastructure and production from the standpoint of improved pastures, ponds, irrigation system, acreage...

She's going on the market July 2013

The timing's about as good as it's going to get from a political standpoint and fortunately the place has really kicked into high gear production-wise. Five years of hard work.

Nice pics! What happened to the trees? :???:

A few photos of my recent activities.

Honestly, outside of my neighbor who bales only his place, there's no one anywhere near making bales and for the life of me I don't know why. The business has expanded really rapidly with demand outstripping supply for me. I'm going to buy a Yanmar tractor, 75 horses, 4 X 4, with front end...

A few photos of my recent activities.

 Man you're a tease. I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I get on line and look at equipment that's not available here. :P

A few photos of my recent activities.

Depending on the material we're baling, the bales normally run 12 to 13 kilos each (26 - 30 lbs)......which is a standard commercial bale here. My neighbor bought a JD baler which produces bigger bales and he's jacked his prices way up though he really doesn't compact the material very well...

A few photos of my recent activities.

The drought really hasn't let up much though here in March we've gotten just enough rain in the area to slow down my baling activities (doesn't take much, of course). I'll probably be baling away from my place until mid to late June. By then the rains should be falling pretty good again and I...
