    Pictures from the Desert

Good to see you are getting moisture! Also, congrats on finding more pasture, your cows look like they are in heaven :D . I like your heifer choices, they should make really nice cows.

    April 2, 2013

Looking great, as usual :D . I'm glad your first branding went good, but I hope you get rained out of a few of them this spring. We were just discussing drought plans again, and when to early wean...one advantage of being a dumb early calver I guess  8) .

    FEBRUARY

That pretty well sums it up :? . We sold more bred cows this week, and bought more hay for insurance since we found some motivated hay sellers. The goal is to maintain some sort of a core herd. Other than a handful of 8 & 9 year olds, what's left in the herd is young. Close to half are 2...

    Mid January 2012 photographs

Where can a person find bargain hay like that? :? :-) . Like Soapweed, we plan to sell some bred cows at the end of the month. Last fall we went with a load, and in hindsight, should have gone with more. We had our forest meeting, and the handwriting is on the wall. Delayed go-on date...

A few pics from the last couple of days

Nice work :D. We borrowed a set of portable ground scales to ship the steers last Thursday, and can't imagine weighing them any other way now. Please post pics when you get it all in.

    April 27 to May 9

Lots of baby calves, and lots of baby trees, you have it made :D . This forest is starting to sprout sapplings, and it's a nice sight after watching so many trees get nailed by pine beetles. Your cattle look great, I bet those late heifers really breed back good on green grass.

    Chores Feb 17

Looks like home, covered in white as far as the eye can see :-) . The calving part also looks like home. It looks like you've got it all under control without your boss home, that's great she had a chance to get away before your really start calving  :D .

    February 5-8, 2012

It looks like the ladies are in fine shape going into calving :D . Like BM's pics, I'm jealous of your open ground, I hope it stays nice and dry for you for a while longer. Good luck calving :D .

Another kind of Valentine's Gift (pics)

I'm glad you had perfect weather to move your cows :D . It looks like just the right amount of shelter within the pasture, your cows are lucky!

    Evening chores

Great pics, I'm very envious of your bare ground, there's a good 10 inches on the ground here... just in time for calving  . It beats a drought though! I like your helpers, I bet they love their daily steer job :D. You're very lucky to still have your dad out and about doing daily...

    Late January 2012

At least the dog provides entertainment for you :-) . All is looking great, and it's nice you got away for a little fun. I'm going to vaccinate these heifers early as well, so then I don't have to worry about fishing them back out of the cows to be worked again. Are you giving it twice? I...

    January snowstorm

I'm glad you got some moisture, it's lightly snowing here this morning, but shouldn't add up to much :D . I've ordered moisture after the 21st of March, I'm enjoying this mild, cheap feeding winter  :D . I still don't have the ladies on full feed. Thanks for the pics, they are beautiful.

    Winter Update 2012

Thanks, more often than not I think the weather and cattle manage me more than anything... but I like to pretend I know what I'm doing :? :P . Yes, the wind has been horrible lately, it even blew part of the roof off of Sam's Club in Cheyenne on Saturday. The positive, it helped to blow open...
