Color...aside.....you don't ride color!..lol
Horse 1.
The grey "looks" like a nice horse. I can understand the whole overfeeding and not working a young horse thing the poster talks about but what made me wonder is "When ridden consistently, this horse is so quiet and nice to ride, just step on him and he rides off quietly." What does this person think "consistently" consist of? everyday? every other day? 3 times a week? What does this horse do when not ridden "consistently"? I just sent my 4 y/o out for breaking this past summer, when he came home he could easily sit in the pasture for 1-2 weeks and when he was pulled out other then being a little more eager for the 1st 15-20 mins. we had no problems. To me this is what a well broke horse should be able to do! I don't care if it's 4 or 14 y/o broke is just that broke. I have not ridden my horse in over 2 months, it will be at least another 2-3 before our weather will break and the ice will melt enough to make it safe for outdoor riding...I expect him to be "fresh" when I pull him out in the spring and seeing he was only broke for a summer before having a long rest he might even need a reminder of a few of the basics. Like a few whoas on the long lines, bending/giving to pressure. I however do not expect to have any big problems and I'm betting that after 10-15 mins of class I'll be putting a foot in the stirrup and swinging up. If I have any problems he will need to go back to breaking school. I do understand the horses personality has a lot to do with it. And this is why I'm bringing it up...what if you buy this horse and even with millions of wet saddle blankets and a few years of growing up give you nothing but an older horse who because of his personality needs to have a consistent job? What if he never becomes a horse that you can give a week off without having to fight with/work extra hard to get his head back on right? Is that the type of horse you want around? Just a thought!
Horse 2. Buy horse 2 IMO
If this horse is being spoken of in truth. This horse will make the better ranch horse. Poster says"I have let him sit for 3 weeks and then hopped on him when it was cold and windy and he walks off quietly every time. This guy has a great foundation underneath him and is ready for a job. " IMO a solid foundation is the key to ever having a great horse, without you'll spend more time "fixing" things that are wrong with that horse. poster says " Although only 6, he has had lots of wet saddle blankets and has the mind of a 10 year old and rides like one too" If this is true all I can say is WONDERFUL! if this horse is that laid back now and not a deadhead, by the time this horse is 10 you should have a "baby sitter" type of horse on your hands. These types of horses are worth their weight in GOLD. They are always able to bring good money even when the markets are crap. People will pay for piece of mind, the safety of their child, grand child or non-horsey hubby. And they are much nicer to do real work off of..IMO I want a horse that I can ask for the speed when I need it and I want it that second! I also want a horse that knows what whoa means and yes again I want that whoa the second I ask for it. I want a horse who doesn't always need to be "worked" and if life happens like it often does it can sit a day, a week, heck who knows maybe even a month if life throws ya a good loop and not have that horse turn into a sh*thead..fresh is one thing a P.I.T.A is another. poster says " He is 14.3 HH " He looks to have a longer forearm so that should help with the shortness of stride worries. The longer the forearm the softer the ride will be even on a short horse. His height is another selling point in my book. If the day comes you do sell him again he is the right size for a youth or 1st time older rider. His height will also make getting on and off easier for you when working and putting in long days. I don't care if your 20 or 50 mounting and dismounting after working hard all day is much nicer on your body on a shorter horse! I do also like the way this horse is built better than the grey, unless he has some problem you can't see in the pics or his back is messed up/sagging/etc....I would buy this boy.
O.K. I'm done splain'n now do whatever ya wanna do but don't plug ur ears if I have to tell ya told so someday...lol
