While you were sleeping Thursday night, so was Oregon.

While you were counting sheep, the Ducks went down for the count themselves for the second straight year to Rich Rodriguez and Arizona.

While RichRod did his part to continue Michigan's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week with a 31-24 upset in Eugene, Marcus Mariota and friends did their part to move us one step closer to Mike Slive's next dream.

Two SEC teams in the inaugural four-team College Football Playoff.

At least.

The more the cynics and skeptics argue that it can't happen, that the selection committee will spread the wealth and overemphasize conference titles, the more the rest of college football drops the ball.

Ohio State inexplicably loses to Virginia Tech at home. Michigan State predictably can't keep up with Oregon on the road. Oregon demonstrates again that Mark Helfrich isn't Chip Kelly, this time in its own pond.

One by one, playoff contenders outside the SEC keep dropping, and the weekend is young. Oklahoma has to survive a treacherous trip to Fort Worth to face improved TCU. Notre Dame has to withstand a visit from Stanford. Nebraska takes the Big Ten's last shot at an undefeated season to Michigan State.

Of course, it's Separation Saturday in the SEC, too, as danger lurks for Alabama at Ole Miss and Auburn at home against LSU, but the selection committee members may have noticed by now the unmatched strength of the SEC West.

One loss doesn't eliminate Oregon or anyone else from the rest of the Power 5 from playoff contention, but it does erase their margin for error. The Ducks will have to run the table from here, and good luck with that with that banged-up offensive line and UCLA and Stanford still to come.

Once again, Oregon's hype has proven to be a myth. The SEC's hope of sending two teams to the playoff remains very much alive.
