A BABELFISH TRANSLATION;

The Community Laboratory of reference was seized to analyze taking away obtained on two sheep reached of a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy Paris, 26.02.2006 The national Laboratory of reference for transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (IS) French Agency of medical safety of food insulated on the brains from two sheep a stock presenting a profile different from that commonly observed in the event of trembling. These preliminary tests do not make it possible to draw from conclusions to date, and of the complementary analyses must be led. The taking away and the data were communicated, as Community legislation envisages it, to the Community laboratory of reference of Weybridge to the United Kingdom, and the European Commission in was informed. The first complementary analyses will require a time of several days and final results could be obtained at the end of one year of biological tests. The two sheep having been the subject of the analyses were born in 2000 and 2002. They were tested with the squaring within the framework of the programme of monitoring of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies in the small ruminants, which made it possible to test more than 400 000 sheep and caprine since April 2002. These animals, controlled with the squaring, were thus not put at consumption. Lawful measurements of precaution were taken: the whole of the livestock of which they came was placed under monitoring and was isolated. Taking into account this situation, the Ministers in charge of health, agriculture and consumption asked the AFSSA, an evaluation of the current device of risk management related to transmissible spongiform encephalopathies in the sheep.

PARIS, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- French Agriculture Ministry announced in a statement on Sunday that two suspected cases of a rare strain of "mad sheep" disease have been identified in central France.
Two suspected cases of a rare strain of the brain-wasting disease, which is also called Scrapie and ovine spongiform encephalopathy, have been identified on two different farms in central France, the ministry said.

The ministry's statement said that one year of tests would be needed to have a final assessment of the disease.

Scrapie was common in France in the 19th century, but only one case of the rare strain was publicly announced in a goat in 2004, an official for the French meat information Centre said.

It is still unknown what the consequences are and in what conditions it is transmissible. Enditem

Holy Cow! Rare "Mad Sheep" Strain Suspected in France

The bird-flu's entry into France seems to be followed by another variety of animal disease that is vying for news space. The French Agriculture Ministry has announced its suspicion on two cases of an extremely rare strain of "Mad Sheep" disease in Central France.

The "Mad Sheep" disease also called, Scrapie and ovine spongiform encephalopathy, has been noticed on two farms in central France.

It is premature to make any conclusive assessment of the disease until threadbare tests are conducted, which will take a timeframe of one year, according to the Ministry's statement. The conditions of transmission of the disease as well as its implications on health remain unknown.
