84 heifers with the bulls for 42 days, 140 2 year olds. some from Sask, some from Alberta, and the mature cows, 6% epmpty, rest bred in 65-70 days.

We're happy! :D

nice breed up. so are those cows out on crown ground or bush country when they are exposed.

going to try a little different approach to preg check this fall. kicked 225 exposed cows out on about 1100 acres with a temporary water source set up and salt set close to water. check water every early morning and before sun goes down, write down the numbers on cows standing heat. so far 3 standing heat since 10/14 at wean and not too many more days to go for 21 days watch. i'll peel those girls off mid november and hand check them then move the rest to winter ground. i don't know. mine where exposed for 45 days - puts presure on fertility.

The younger half were pasture bred for about 30 days then went to range. The older cows were all range bred and are actually spread more than the 2 year olds.

If your cows aren't lying to you that is darn good also. The neighbor gal does the same thing and it seems more show up just prior to calving than in the fall.

I started using biopryn blood test to check the cows and heifers 30 days after close of breeding season. The open heifers were sold for heavy feeders and the open cows went to beef at weaning. I will test a few that I suspect slip their calf and send them to beef if they are open.
