Went with our local water commissioner today.....scouting ditches, headgates, & partial flumes lookin' to see what had washed out or frost heaved out over the winter and came across this.

This Aspen tree is about 24" across...with tracks going straight up!

A pretty good sized black bear in these woods somewhere 8)

You're right NR, I'd say they were 2 years old.

FH, they couldn't be from a grizzly because the CO Div. of Wildlife says, unequivocally, that there are no grizzly in the state..... despite numerous sightings by reputable hunters and guides. :???: Never the less, it was probably just a plain ordinary black bear.

Good luck with the bear huntin' this spring, NR. The wacko groups, about 5 or 6 years ago, were able to get an amendment to the state constitution, banning the spring bear hunt and outlawing baiting, on the ballot....and sure enough it passed by a very slim majority. Now people are wondering why bears are coming out of the hills and coming into their suburbs.

You can sure be alot more selective hunting over bait-plus it's pretty fun watching a group of bears carry on night after night. Sara is pumped to get her first bear so we'll see what we can do.
