A big WOW!

AHEM AHEM Utah H poses with 2 young beautiful Oregon ranch women poets that are in his circle. Alrighty then! 😏

Utah H was a cowboy poet, an old word slinger
He hung with Oregon women, a poet and a singer
He left his friends on Ranchers Net
A decision we thought he would regret

Photographic evidence tells us the tale
Of how our company, rates as pale
Bright lights, stages, and the microphone
Overshadow the keyboard and the quiet of home

I had rather compose verse while feeding the cows
Than recite on stage with all the glory and bows
But it is a matter of preference, the setting you see
As H once said, "You do you and I'll do me"

That picture was taken at their performance at Jordan Valley in 2024. That was the entire cast that evening. It was put together by Annie McKenzie. There was a microphone and about 30 people in the crowd. Admission was free. And H drove with his son from Utah to Jordan Valley on his own dime.

Be that as it may, it was an all star cast. Four very talented performers. I totally understand why H doesn't spent time posting here, but you see old cowboy poetry is partly poking fun at each other using verse. I bet H hasn't changed from what he used to be.

I don't know of any cowboy poet or singer that is getting rich from performing. Only top performers and at only at a few events, get paid and if all the hours are considered it took to get to that status, it would be less than a penny an hour.

I do cowboy or chuckwagon verse, because I have had it popping in my head for 71 years. Most of it is never verbalized or written down, so it is lost. If the truth be told, very few really care about cowboy poetry with its style that reflects an honest way living. They go to these poetry events for all the workshops and socialization.

I think one reason cowboy poetry isn't appreciated today, like it once was in the days of cattle drives and chuckwagon meals , is the blatant honesty it expresses.
