Well, we're into seeding full force. Much better then the last two years of mudding the crops in! Still having a bit of difficulty though, the sprayer has been getting stuck at least once a day, I was stuck six times two days ago. I thought some of you might like to see our outfit, and I would love to see some pictures of everyone else's!

Grandpa seeding some wheat. New Holland T9040 with a 49 foot SeedHawk 357 Magnum drill behind it. That unit handles the hills like none other!

My office for the spring, our Miller Condor A40, 1000 gallon tank and 100 foot booms. I'll be doing some custom spraying with it once crops start poking out of the ground.

Lets see what everyone else is running!

You guys must not have any terraces. I ran a Rogator for 9 years. I could cover more ground with my 80 foot booms then I could with a set of 120s. The 120 foot machine was always in the dirt. Best day I ever had was 1400 acres.

A monstrous outfit at our place...
An IH 55 Chisel plow (21') and a 20' set of IH 620 double disk drills.

All pulled by a JD 4240. No sprayer. This was taken last year as we won't start seeding for a couple of weeks yet. We only put in about a 1/4 section of mixed swath grazing (Barley, Oats, Triticale, Rye, etc).

That is a huge outfit compared to ours.

12' disc, 12' seeder, broadcast fertilizer spreader, 10' packer. None of them hooked together. All for 20 acres of silage oats and peas.

I bet our payments are the same...

Whatever works, works! We have 5000 acres of grain land, so 20 foot discs would probabally not get our crop in by the crop insurance deadline

WP, since we got the sprayer two years ago Dad's best day has been 1200 acres. But he's always running around helping grandpa keep the airdrill going too so we havent been able to cover the acres we wanted to until this year!

Agreed. We opted out of the grain thing in the 80s and now the costs to reenter are prohibitive, even if we wanted to. With modern sized grain operations, older style equipment doesn't make the grade.

Sprayed a a half section we were renting that Ducks Unlimited bought today. Boy what they do to the land. Pluggin up the natural drain ways in good grain land and seeding it all to grass. I'm all for wildlife lands, but we had been renting it for a decade and just got it cleaned up enough to feel safe going at night in two years ago. And loosing another 700 acres to investers next year :???: gonna be a tough ride out for me to plan on taking the farm over, boy I can tell you that much. Too bad I wasn't born 50 years ago, I like seeing family farms. Keeps kids out of trouble.

Anyways thats my rant for the day I guess.

Have a safe seeding everyone!

At least you have a cab. 8) JD 70 with 12' drill for 30 acres of hay barley.

Taken last year, it's not that green this year.

We also have air conditioning and last year we sprang for a whole set of new seat cushions...Figured it was worth it. We sold our 4430 with 35000 hours on it and the buyer is still using it, so this 4240 should go for at least another 24000.

It seems my son was able to find a wet spot- - - - tractor, backhoe, excavator heavy chains 4 men 6 hours labor and it is back on solid ground then 2 men for 3 hours removing and pressing the press wheel brackets and it is back in the field!

One of the reasons for the man power is the " Tank Retriever" chains I have weigh 200# per 12' length - - - but then anything less can break and endanger someone!
