a few chore pictures

Mostly pictures all taken yesterday morning.


I hand feed what they'll clean up fairly quickly twice a day (grass hay) to the bovines. I can't afford to grain or cake them.

I did feed these weanling heifers a pound and a half of grain or so a day for awhile to bunk and bucket break them, but are on just hay now.

I try to spend some time each day just sitting on hills, waiting for coyotes to come along.

My male heeler wants to attack the pig real bad everyday. He's the only one that pays any attention to the pig. His parents were used on hogs somewhere in northern Iowa.

I don't grain or cake the cows, but feel I need to grain the goats. :???: ...the does

The goats get the weedy bales I come across and love it! I baled some weeds on purpose just for them also.

my chickens are tribal...

My coming 3 year old mule. She's getting bigger than I thought she would.

I'm enjoying everyone's pictures and stuff!!! It doesn't get any better than this way of life, IMO! I love feeding critters in the winter!

Thanks! Bacon goes to town Jan. 9th. Yeah, I'm not good at guessing weights on anything, especially my first pig here.....so he looks ready???? You want them in the 220 to 250 range or so, right? When I bought him, the owners said he should be ready in Jan. and I made an appointment ahead of time to make sure I could get him in....that's all I'm going by. I'm glad you said he looks ready because I've been wondering.

Livestock are alll looking well cared for RA. Pig looks like he's sure getting fat and probably not bred to make it to 270 lbs. Time to make some bacon! Great pics!

Man alive, those are some fat cows. On a body condition score, I'd call them an 8 easy and probably a 9!!

Your heifers will do fine without grain. We never grained ours either;
just hay and mineral.

How's your dead coyote count doing, I've got half a dozen so far but we don't get real serious till after the New Year.

Thanks! ...super wild :wink: That cat is the happiest rollin' around wanted petted cat I've owned... Besides the goats being fun to have, I'm excited to have them help with weed and brush control on about 8 to 10 acres or so that I haven't been able to use for much.... I need a couple more though.... They sure get a bad rap on here....

Thanks! They aren't the most feminine looking cows.... I've selected and culled for tame easy keeping cows. For the first time I also got all the major events a cow goes through to happen when I wanted it to happen this year. They did better all year long this year and especially here before it snowed just out on grass having had plenty of grazing time without a calf at side before it did get cold. I could go on and on with a bunch of gibberish....just lots and lots of stuff coming together, but nothing fancy.

Thanks! I probably have poor chicken and goat stock and don't know it....

My coyote count is WAY WAY down this fall/winter from last so far at this time! I haven't called any yet, but I've only had one so far on my property that I've seen and I'm always looking....got that one. My dogs tell me there is a coyote on one path they seem to like to travel through here on and they haven't seen any.....they bark a certain way at coyotes. Last year it was plumb nuts with all the coyotes roaming through here, howling in the middle of the day, running right up to my cows....just going everywhere in plain sight. A couple of neighbors have upped their outside dog numbers and just let them run wild all over the place. I watched them run deer all over while deer hunting this fall. I don't know if they are keeping coyotes away or not??? On one hand I'm glad I'm not seeing the coyotes and the other I want to shoot some real bad. I need to get more calling places. Congrats on the kills so far! I hope you get a lot more!
