Two-year-old heifers almost home, to join up with other two-year-old heifers so we can vaccinate with Scourgard 4KC next week.

Those Cake boxes are great hunter gatherer tools. Hfs appear to have wintered well so far.

Seeing that horse ground tied reminded me of an old story a buddy of mine tells. He was driving truck and picking a pot load of calves at a ranch. Old cowboy would cut some calves out and run em up the chute, horse went right into truck behind the calves. The old boy did this a number of times, and my buddy (not a horse guy) was real impressed. He asked the old boy "how much to have you leave that horse in the trailer" Old cowboy said "son you aint got enough".

By the looks of that back cinch ol'Yellowstone seems to be wintering well.

He's a pretty big horse. I weighed him last fall, and he was 1380 pounds. He's half Quarter Horse and half Tennessee Walking Horse. I bought him as a yearling out in Roberts, Montana, and he will be thirteen years old this coming spring.

He is not gaited, but he does have a good ground-covering walk. He's not real cowy, but cowy enough to accomplish most tasks. Yellowstone isn't as cowy as Goose, but for just putting in a long day in the saddle, covering lots of miles, and getting any sorting or roping job done, I'd take Yellowstone.

Dad had a QH/Walker cross gelding when I was a little guy back in North Dakota. He wasn't gaited either but had a walk as smooth as silk. Dad said Ol' Dick was the best all around horse he ever rode. He gave him to one of my cousins when we moved north. Dick lived to be 32 years old and taught lots of little ones to ride in his later years.

Nice big stout horse, the kind I like to ride. Trailing cattle following the cake pickup is a familiar sight on a lot of ranches these days. Easy on the cattle and the cowboys. Nice pictures.
