A while back I made comment about lack of posting from others. Remembered the camera today to let you know we're still here.

How much is that doggy in the window?

We are supplementing their grass with 9 lbs of our better hay daily. A dry summer like last won't keep much green in the rustling, the hay adds some protein and keeps them digging.

Grass til February if we don't get snow. The saved hay might look good next fall.

A little green for Christmas from last Sept. :D

Everything is looking mighty fine in your neck of the woods, Gcreek. The cattle are in good flesh, and thriving well on their winter ration. Your hay pile is very impressive. Thanks for the tour.

Cattle look pretty dang good. :D Are ya sure they don't have some desert bloodlines in those igloo cows? Glad to see we arent the only ones that pile up brush all summer so we can burn it half the winter.

looks like it was a nice day. cattle sure look good. i got my own version of the "keeper of the gate" picture somewhere.

what kind of peas are with the oats.

Good question H76 :? , when we seeded there were green ones and purple ones. :D

Can ya tell I'm not much of a farmer? They grew and that's all that counted. I'll see if I can backtrack the variety for you.

no big deal - just curious. they must be austrian peas... where they real small? i like arvika for hay. raised two crops of aragorn (sp?) for cash crop last two years but not much fun to mess around with - would rather hay them.

so what's better? long, snowy winter that makes for good grass and hay crops. or open winters you can ruff out but not so pretty summer grass or hay crops?

The peas blossomed but never made pods. The seed was about the same size as Jolly Green Giant canned peas.

Dry is good to a point, not fighting wet hayground so much, calves weigh heavier, open winter. We get a lot of our flood irrigation water from spring fed creeks but the runoff is nice too.

Dry to us would likely be a monsoon year for you. :D

Nice. We can rent you some snow if you want. Need it back when it starts melting, so you could probably have it for 8 months or so :D .
