While we were out puttin out hay, I took a few pictures yesterday. It was such a perdy evenin.

This gal is known as "The escape artist" She gets out under the flood gate nearly every night. It's habitual.....and we've had about all we can stand of her. She's only about 5 years old...bred back to calve in the next month or so......raises a great calf.....but she can't stay. Her mama looked just like her...did the same things...and took the same ride a few years ago. So....today we penned cows and sorted her out. She's gonna take a short ride in a long trailer tomorrow!

Update on "The Escape Artist"
I'm so mad right now I can't hardly see strait. After we got her penned, we came home and loaded up a barrel to haul water out to her. Got out there and she had jumped three gates. Tore two brand new gates all to smitherenes, and is runnin around in the pasture again. So now, in the mornin at 7:30 I'm meetin one of our guys out there with the trailer and he's gonna rope her and load her in the pasture. Then I"m goin strait to the salebarn with her!!!!!!
......Mr Lilly would have preferred her takin a dirt nap. But at least we'll get somethin for her. Possibly enough to buy Lil Lilly a round pen. LOL we spoke too soon comin home after pennin her and told her, "Your round pen is in the lot".
Subtract $100 offa whatever we get for her.....and we'll still use the rest on the round pen. Cuz we gotta pay this feller to come rope her. I wish soooo bad that we'd loaded her up and hauled her in this evenin instead of leavin her there and plannin on loadin her tomorrow afternoon.

You're not alone Lilly, we have all had days like that. Hope you get her without too much trouble tommorow.
We would need 5 or 6 like her to buy a steel round pen up here. :(

Beautiful sunset pictures, must have been the same one Soapweed photographed. :D

Hope ya can nab her nice and quick tomorrow and she brings a good price. Prices for cows are way down around here and $300 bucks would be hard to get! Cattle look nice and hope she didnt teach any of her peers her tricks!

Thursday January 8, 2009 Market report from San Angelo.

PREGNANCY TESTED STOCK COWS AND HEIFERS: All sold by the head.
Medium and Large 1-2 set 800.00.
Medium and Large 2 650.00-760.00, aged cows 515.00-610.00.

Good distance from us, but I can't find any reports from any close salebarns around us because they haven't had any sales since the New Year holiday.

Takin' a dirt nap! That's rich. We call it getting a "hot lead injection". We had a neighbor with a cow called Houdini. She was seldom where he put here but she could escape and re-enter without damage to fence and property. She was a pleasant personalitied cow and he (and his neighbors) kept her until a ripe old age up in the teens somewhere.

Good luck Lilly,Got one to haul to the sale tuesday, and she's a wild one also.Should be fun  Pretty low sale in Fallon,Nevada ,and Cottonwood,Ca about the same.Hope the proceeds cover the round pen.

per we had a cow like that, but got tired of the calls from the neighbor to come get her out of his hay field.
Could never find where she got out, no wires down or broke, no staples out, nothing.
Pretty crazy though we would just drive up to our fence, drop the wires and yell for her to come home and she would walk right through.
She would try to eat your gloves when you went to feed them.
I miss that cow, we called her Pet because she was one. :D

We occasionnally get one of these kind of cows at the sale. It is amusing to watch them meet a good log fence for the first time. They give up their fence crawling habits in short order.

SHE'S GONE

She tried for 30 miles to jump out of the trailer. But it's got bars and a tarp cover on top of it. She did have a bloody nose by the time I got there with her. Then....she didn't wanna git outta the trailer

You do have to wonder what goes thru their heads the instant they realize where they are....it's NOT 'home'.....and must be thinking , " whoa shite!!!"

I had a charolis that did not calve so I was going to ship her ( big pet wanted her ears scratched any time ) but when we backed the trailer up she tried to jump the guard rail fence about 5' high. Five big hits on the fence and she broke three post ( high way sigh post ) off and was gone.

Next day she was back and I thought I would give her another try. No calf the following year and I put her up. Started backing the trailer up and she took out two good heavy pipe gates and was gone.

I left the trailer there ( winter time ) and fed a small group of cows her included in the trailer for a week until the next sale. She did her best to tear the trailer up when she realised I had closed the back and was quite a show at the sale but she left!

LOL "dirt nap"...that's a new one for me...I know every rancher has had a critter or two like her...Calves do learn from their mama's that's for sure. Love the photo's of sunsets...can't wait to see the new round pen!

Well we got the check in the mail today. She weighed 1085, and we got $619.00 for her after commissions, yardage and such. Not as much as I'd hoped, but not as bad as it coulda been. At least she paid for the round pen with $ left over. The round pen, is 12- 10ft panels and cost 436.00. So guess we came out good on that deal. And she's no longer sneakin out at night grazin in the bar ditch!!!! That's the best part of the whole deal!!!

Maybe if you had bought the round pen first you could have put the ol' girl inside and moved it every day. :D :P

Heck I need to move! Cows are dirt cheap and panels here are sky high. To the tune of $130 for 12 footers. You must be livin' right! :D

Pssst.....closer to Mexico.

Nope, it's brand new. Mind you it's not a super heavy duty one. But it will serve the purpose it's intended for just fine.

I'll take pictures this afternoon while she's workin her horse and post them.
