We are feeding a bale of oat silage as part of the calves daily diet.

Like Liberals at a handout rally.

The oat bales are impossible to roll out so the Skandahoovian Bale Pro gets put to use. :D

Roy's Road. I was three afternoons plowing a 3 mile trail into 500 bales.

Part of the drive home. This is about 9-10 miles from Roy's as the crow flies, there is quite a difference in the snow depth. The fog was starting to lift at 4 PM.

Great pictures. Looks like you put a bale in about every available place to put a bale for the ride home. I am surprised there was that much daylight at 4 p.m. being that far north.

Great pictures. In the first picture is that your dog laying off to the right of the bale trying to lure the yearlings into nipping range? Do you keep your yearlings till fall and how far is it to a sale barn for you. They are nice looking cattle. Thanks for showing us your ranch this morning.

Good pics. Cattle look happy to see you. The right front tire looks directionally challenged. Is that so you can sneak Back out?

Doesn't know whether he is coming or going and is insecure! You can sure learn a bunch from a few photos.

So many ?s.

Soapweed, it is still light enough to see at 5:45 now. Three weeks ago it was dark at 5.

Brushpopper, it is 220 miles to the nearest sale barn, the pasture we rented last summer for the few yearlings we had was 10 miles from the sale barn. If COOL gets straightened out our cattle will increase in value, our $ was .79 this morning. We are planning to go to the same grass as last year but if the spring market improves we may sell them. Last July we lucked out and sold some 987 lb steers for $1.00.
The dogs are keeping the multitude from swamping the string pullers, there are actually 4 of them.

JB, I took that pic after I took the straps off. I have a good relationship with MOT, when they are here I find other projects to do. :D The local boys don't pay too much mind to the farmers here.

Everyone, at times I do feel directionally challenged

Fantastic pictures :D . Your cattle look great, especially considering the harsh temperatures they've been through. Do you plan to haul all 500 bales from that stackyard?

I went to Denver Stockshow yesterday, and the Lowliners were in the yard... don't think they'd work for you since any drift much over 2 feet would be quite an obstacle for the little guys... I guess you could equip them with individual avalanche beacons so you knew which drift to dig them out of  . Quite the day, got to see everything from Lowliners to 1800 pound 2 year-old Angus heifers  . Moderation anybody??? There were some good cattle of course, but the extremes were quite notable  .

Enough of my little tangent... thanks again for the nice pictures of "real world" cattle :D .

Ya wouldn't be needing a hired hand to help ya all winter and make snide comments would ya? :D Did ya put up your oat silage in tubes? They do a lot of that south of here. I sure like your fences but i'll bet they are lots of work building. Thanks for the great tour of the frozen north. You are the man! :D

1800 pound two year old heifers!! That's insane :P Those little lowline angus are beefy little things,i use to run a few dexter cattle and always wanted to cross one with a lowline bull. But that's a another breed that's hard to sell unless on the hoof, direct market.I heard of a guy that got 20cwt on those through a yard,on a 700 pound animal. Can't afford a massacre like that.

It's beyond insane, it's more like disgusting in my book . I guess that's the showring mentality... something I'll keep a safe distance from :D .
