Instead of going right home, I went down and back just a couple miles on a road that I am going to own land on someday and I'm going to use calf money to buy it.

looks like you already have some nice improvements on your projected purchace :D

:D ....chances are I'll be on here next week saying how excited I am that my new apartment in town has a balcony.... :D . ....but it does't hurt to dream and try for something... :D

Boy o boy you must really love your wife to run all the way to town for one pop....things look good there. I know i would never be able to post pictures of me petting my cows and if i do get one will probably be followed by hospital pictures.

It's been fun watching your place/herds/flocks grow, first in your words, and especially in your pictures, "a picture being worth a thousand words" some say.

We have driven across Missouri many times, visiting relatives or passing through. Your area looks quite familiar, in some ways.

I had an uncle who grew up in west central SD, 1910 to 1930 and after a stint mining in the Black Hills, then in Peru during WWII, he ended up in MO. He always wished he could transplant that terrain and the streams and water table to his family home ranch here!!!

Keep up your optimism, attitude and hard work.

:D ...now don't think too much of it....everything in all these pics are within 2 miles probably... :D It's just 20 or 30 miles one way to bigger towns, so I would of went to them if needed because happy wife, happy life.... :D :D I sometimes go weeks or months without leavin the place, so it doesn't happen often. Thanks! You're more man than I....I have seen the proof...I have an extreme self preservation bone and it says to have the tamest cattle possible.... :D

Things are lookin' good on the Ponderosa RA! :D Sure is pretty country. But after the turkey picture i started daydreaming and all i saw was roost trees and places to set up and call. :D :D

Thanks for this! Thanks for telling your story! I think south Missouri has some beautiful streams and rivers! Most are muddy up here, but crystal clear down there....very neat! All around here it seems...farm ground on the bottoms and flats....cattle in the hills...lots of rolling hills....lots of ponds, streams and rivers.

Yeah, I still get nervous as heck posting on here....I still won't be able to sleep tonight. I'm out of place on here, but everything on here is want I want to built up to! I almost threw up a couple times because of nerves the other day before I was to call leanin' H. :D

I have only been to South Dakota once. I drove acrossed it at night....thought I was going to get killed by truckers and almost ran out of gas... ended up parking right by a gas station somewhere and was about to go to sleep when they opened.... :D I've seen some really neat ranches in South Dakota in pics and on tv and wish I had seen the state in the daylight!

Thanks! I will keep it up!

Sounds like a plan... :D As long as you agree to sign a release form stating that you will never mention how close a couple of my neighbors are on ranchers....I've worked hard over the years to hind their houses..... :D :D :D :D ...kinda messed up once the other day... :D

:D :D Boy isn't that the truth. We ran into that stuff looking at places leading up to this place. I wish we were a little more secluded, but some places would of been like living in town....the pictures didn't show it and a couple people lied about it. Luckily I have enough hills on my place it, isn't so bad.

RA where are you located or near where? Up north there isn't enough rocks and gravel in the streams for them to clear up like down my way. They get gin clear in the winter.

I'm up here by the Iowa line and I-35. Yep, beautiful down there. I have some pictures of some neat streams down there I took a couple of years ago while taking horses to Eminence....I might try and find them. I didn't take any while living down there those couple years.

RA, I could get the 'fever' to have some chickens again, looking at your flock! Mine were even more colorful, being Araucana's and even some fighting breeds a 'friend' slipped into those he gave me. None got mean, tho.

Guess my inlaws had a real mean rooster years ago that would attack even pretty big kids with it's spurs. My guess is that rooster probably was too tough to eat!

I bet that was a pretty flock you had! I knew I would love the fresh eggs, but didn't know how much I would grow to enjoy taking care of my little feathered friends!

I ended up with 2 roosters out of 5 chicks I brought home from the feed store last year. I read where if you pick up and carry the young roosters everyday there is a better chance of them being respectful towards you. So I did it with one.....everyday I carry him around for awhile.....he's not real tame, but very respectful.....the other is gone....he kept acting like he wanted to attack me, then did attack my oldest boy. I see some people have really tame, seeks out affection roosters.

I'm probably going to come home with one or two of each of the breeds I have now from the feed store in a couple weeks when I get turkeys, but I also have 2 pullet chicks each of....
Silver Laced Wyandottes,
Buff Orpingtons,
Speckled Sussex,
and Columbian Wyandottes
....coming for sure when my meat birds come. I can't wait for those to come! I eat a lot of eggs and am going to start slowly selling any extra if/as I have any.
