A few pictures from the Black Hills Stock Show

[Soapweed]

Lot 3 at the Fischer Farms cutting horse sale, which was held Wednesday evening. This two year old stud is named Strait Smoken Gun and is sired by Strait From Texas. He sold for $4500. Quite a few of these horses, at least eight or ten head, sold to Czechoslovakia. Besides the purchase price, it costs $6500 per horse to transport them to where they are going.

This stud really caught my eye. He was lot 47--Peptos Pretty Pep, by Peptos Stylish Oak, going back to Peppy San Badger twice and Doc Bar. He was a bit bigger than most of the horses, and had action like a cat. He was bid in at $18,000, but was no-saled.

The sales staff, including Jake Clark reading pedigrees, Alan Odden auctioneer, Lynn Fischer owner of the horses, and a brand inspector.

Interesting that you took pictures of the cabalero. I wonder if he is the same one that was at the NFR?

Of course, my pictures aren't nearly as good as yours, but I thought it was interesting that I took pictures of the same subject as you. I was at the very top of the seating, and that didn't help much...

But I sure enjoy watching those fellas. You really got some good shots.

Thanks for the pictures Soapweed...This is one of the first years in I don't know how many, we didn't go up to the stockshow...we always have a good time there...

Fine photos of the stock show Soapweed. Bet it was a treat watching the Mexican Charro. Would have been worth the price of the rodeo ticket it's self.

I saw Troy Lerwill a few years ago at the stockshow and got a kick out of his performance also. If I remember right during one of his performances that year he didn't quite have enough distance and touched down on his pickup.

We were able to slip out to the stockshow last Sat. for the day. Watched the horse sale for a while then toured booths and visited with a few folks we ran into.
Way too many people for me, I think it would be better to go out in the middle of the week when it's not so darn crowded. :shock:

I think Soapweed has figured out that when you go later in the week, you can get some really good buys from the vendors that don't want to take their wares back home again.

He's always got a good reason to back up his actions.

That's Jake Clark from Ralston Wyoming isn't it. I don't remember him ever wearing glasses and never did see him dressed that nice - even for a funeral. He is a pretty neat guy. I spent two summers down in the Powell/Cody area and Jake and his crew taught me how to rope the right way. He had a deal with Cody night rodeo and broke in alot of the rough stock. We roped 22 fresh steers every week morning and night for the rodeo all summer long. Some other kids broke in the bucking horses but I never got the nerve to give it a try... especially when some of the guys that knew what they were doing got hurt. I wonder what ever happened to his son TJ. They are quite the family.[/img]

The Jake Clark Mule Days is quite an event at Ralston, Wyoming, held each year on Father's Day week-end. It consists of an all mule parade and mule rodeo on Saturday, and the mule auction on Sunday. Last year, 130 mules averaged about $3200 apiece. It was a fun event to attend. T.J. Clark rode a lot of the mules through the ring this past year.

Great pictures! We enjoyed the same "show" on Saturday afternoon. The place was so packed it was hard to see all of the exhibits but it was fun to see all the people we knew. We even ran into "Kosmo kid" and his cutie.

He said he saw you. We were there Thursday, and although there were quite a few people, it wasn't really crowded. We had a good time. That morning, I walked into the entry way to where the show cattle were tied up, and being curried and washed. The entry way was full of people, and there was one yearling bull being led that was ticked off at the world. I thought the bull was going to escape his handler's grasp and clean out that whole entry way. Fortunately, everyone held their breath and the young man was able to once again gain control of the bull and lead him to a quieter part of the building. It looked like it might get real exciting for a minute, but it is well that it didn't.

T.J. Clark has been picking up quite a bit for Korkows. Helluva cowboy. The young lady that is carrying the American flag is Tomas' daughter, she also carried the flag at the NFR

I wonder why with most pictures here on Ranchers net I can't access. With all of Soap's pictures theres a little red X in a square for me to click on and when I do nothing happens. ?????
I go down to Elwapo's post and the pictures of his bulls are right there as I access his post-nothing to click on, they are there in his posting. Nice looking bulls BTW. Anyway anyone that can tell me what is happening?
