By the way who is benefiting from all this imported beef? I have been told
in some meat processing facilities 75% of beef is imported. I am not talking about coastal or border areas. I am talking about the heartland of America. Most of this beef has not been tested. And we are trying protect our borders??? By the way we test very few cattle. Our supposed standards do not even come close to Europe's. Our current system of checking is so out of date, the cow has to be a "downer" or the random pick of many hundreds before they are tested. Now it is pretty obvious that the "downer" has a very short time to live. What about the "downer" that is still walking? In otherwords without "symptoms". Well you guessed it, they are slaughtered. Statistical probability would dictate that we have slaughtered many a mad cow and introduced their meat into the food chain. Japan tests every animal. We don't! In fact, private persons have been prevented from testing for mad cow prions. Just so everyone knows, I am a nobody. I do not know all the supposed science involved. It seems like it took the scores of scientists of Great Britain around 9 years to link Mad Cow disease to similar disease in humans.(1986 to 1995). It would seem that even the scientists don't know the cure or even the precise cause. I think it is undisputed however, that every country that imported bone mill based feed from Great Britain has had a confirmed mad cow event or series of events. I think if I remember correctly someone said or wrote, the United States imported thousands of metric tons of this type feed a number of years back. I guess that would have been before 1997, but I am no expert. I am just a citizen that wants healthy food on my families dinner table.

Prudence --- there are others who have sworn off beef. The number is growing. "

" The United States shouldn't allow Canada to dump it's crap on us. Their needs to be a congressional investigation as to how the USDA has come to overstep it's boundaries in these vital decisions that continue to determine the immediate as well as the future health risks they potentially put on the American people. Without transparency in place and a "no holds bar" attitude by the USDA, it's no wonder the U.S. beef and cattle industry continues to suffer the consequences of this incompetent department. I personally have stopped eating meat and won't feed it to my family because I don't feel assured that it's safe. With this new border opening , any chance of me reverting back to eating meat is now completely off. Thanks to the USDA. As for Canada may you burn in hell for the lives your jeopardizing. I support R- Calf and want them to keep on whining. "The squeeky wheel( after all )gets the oil" so ,don't give up. There are millions that may not know whats going on. It's time for America to wake up! THANK YOU! "

What was the CFIA's agenda when they denied private BSE testing?

Mrs.Greg--Have you been watching the Lou Dobbs show??? Most the thousands of folks that email Lou about how dumb and dangerous they think our USDA and FDA's importing rules are, have never even heard of R-CALF....But they know about the dangers of the imports of BSE from Canada, tainted dogfood and toys from China, pesticide ridden fish from Vietnam, chemically polluted foods from Mexico, etc. etc...

There are a whole lot more consumer groups putting out warnings of the dangers of this administrations wide open uninspected import policies....And many of the consumer sites now- since the reopening of the border to questionable beef/cattle- are advising people to not eat beef unless its home grown "grassfed" beef...Every time Canada finds another "Mad Cow of the Month" its all over the headlines of these consumer publications and websites.....

R-CALF was trying to make consumers aware of the fact that the USDA inspected label did not guarantee US product- but was having an unhill battle-- and along came China, Mexico, Canada, with all these questionable food products-and sick and dying kids and pets which got loads of media attention- and now the people are aware of the FRAUD and inactions of both USDA and FDA- and the dangers they're still allowing and want changes....

This is the reason 92% of the consumers surveyed have asked for COUNTRY OF ORIGIN LABELING!!!

But for most self pitying Canadian its easier to blame it all on R-CALF-- and none of your own, your cattle organizations, or your governments actions... :( :(

Goggling...I found out that Lou Dobbs is on CNN,so NO I've never seen his show...I don't get CNN.

I'm tired of argueing with you and sandhusker, not that I believe what you tell me but obviously it gets us nowhere, your both going to keep spreading the Canadian infected beef BS and keep ignoring the question..."How can Canada have BSE and not the US after THOUSANDS of animals crossed borders both ways?"

I'm thinking both of you boys would do better cleaning your own doorsteps first. Not all the infected food is coming from other countrys a HUGE part of it is coming from your own country, start concentrating on that. I'm not at all afraid to let my grandson,"a child I love as much as you do yours" eat our beef but I'd be pretty darn scared to let him eat beef from a country that throws rocks at other countrys and ignores there own food safety issues :? :? :?

Actually its not the country-- Its a current Administration that is in power (for only another year :D  ) that has arrogantly ignored the concerns of the country's consumers and ignored food safety and health issues from EVERYWHERE ! :(

Who has said that we don't have BSE? We haven't found your strain, but we've got a couple atypicals, no denying that. Who has said that we don't need to do more here? Mrs, Greg, you're argueing with us and you don't even know where we're standing, what we've said and what we haven't said!

Here's the deal; I want BSE in the US eradicated. I want us to test more and I want a live test so we can eradicate it. I'll also point out that there is no way in hell than you can eradicate it if you're importing it, and even the USDA admits we will be importing it from you. That is why the border needs to be closed - that and the USDA has a mandate to keep disease out, not to manage it. They are breaking the law by knowingly bringing in disease. I think the government ought to follow laws.

If you test your beef, fine, send it down. Use a live test so you can guarantee your cattle are BSE free, and send them down, too. Until then, we need to follow laws and common sense.

I realy dont know how guys that support R-cult can go on? The god damn propaganda they are spreading is going to ruin the beef industry for you guys too. Bunch of real whack jobs!!!

What's going to ruin the beef industry is allowing food safety and herd health standards to be lowered for the benefit of big business - and you can't tell me that isn't exactly what is happening. I don't like being a disposable pawn, and I don't understand why Canadians feel US producers have to take a bullet for them. R-CALF is the only outfit that has the nards to stand up and say, "This is wrong".

I'm sorry that you guys up there are getting beat up, but damnit, any businessman knows you're in deep water if you're dependant on one customer for your existance and you were and still are. You also had a chance, and probably still do, to pass us up and take markets via BSE testing, but instead you're fighting to get in the same precarious situation you were in! What's it going to take? You guys remind me of a heifer that got in a tank once. We had a heck of a time getting her out - plenty of cussing and beating her with a post. We finally got her out - and she jumped right back in, and she probably hated us forever. The root of your problems is dependency on one market, US packers owning you, and a government that won't take their mouth of their neighbor's teat - it isn't R-CALF.

Consider that your prices follow ours, as you're the "little brother". The packers use you guys to clamp down on our prices - which in turn brings yours down as you trail us! And that's the system you're pissed at R-CALF for upsetting! Good grief, what the heck is wrong with you guys? Back up and take a look; You're wailing about a foreign trade group causing you problems. That should tell you right there that your destiny is not in your hands, you're just drifting with the wind.

Come on, MR, R-CALF is not your problem, YOU guys are your problem! You could remedy things and leave us in the dust if you would just do it! Do, it man! You've got opportunities to make US producers envyable, but instead you fight to get back in the tank and blame R-CALF.

I'd also like to know how any citizen can sit idly by while an agency of their own government lies to them, ignores their congressional mandate and invents another. One of our duties as citizens in a democracy is holding our government accountable.
