Welcome to South Louisiana!! :D Where the ground never dries!!! it rained about 3 inches the day before on top of about 13 inches in the last two weeks here. Yall get to play in the snow and I get the mud year round. this little colt is nice, especially for free. 8) hes already got a good handle on him and not really spooky like most colts.

Nice colt--anyway what we can see of him!

How far back is Blue Valentine?

I saw Leo Hancock Hayes at Ray Wardell's in Moorcroft, Wyoming
a few years back. Talk about bone!! He had it in spades.
He's a direct son of Blue Valentine with Leo and Sugar Bars
on the bottom side. I wish I had taken a picture of him.
He was a grand looking horse, and a black roan! Built to
be durable!

We have a five yr. old red roan gelding that is Blue Valentine bred on the top side and Peppy San on the bottom

Faster Horses, the dam to our old mare that I put down this fall was by a horse called Baldy Barnes. He was supposedly used as a timed event horse in the 60's or 70's. He was from Montana or Idaho.
Have you or Mr. FH ever heard of him?

I have heard of him. He sired some awful good rope horses.
They had lots of speed and were real stout made. Good-withered,
good footed horses.
We need more of that kind!!

In 1981 we bought an own daughter of Baldy Barnes that was 18 at the time. She was exactly what you describe. The old fellow we got her from was selling her because of her age. We bred her to an own son of Peppy San that my BIL owned and got a filly. BIL kept the filly until she won a BC breeders Snaffle Bit Futurity and then let us take her home. :D
The old mare never bred again and the filly turned into the best all-around horse I have ever owned. One of her colts we had trained as a cutting horse and he was one of 18 semi-finalists at the 1999 PCCHA Futurity in LA out of 180 entries. She had 9 foals in her life (including a set of twins) and all but one turned into good using horses.

The bad one we blamed on the sire. :D

Sorry I stole your post Robin, wish you luck with your colt, he's bred to be good.

HP- ill try to get a picture of him from the side later. Tryin to help some friends right now with all their calves hitting the ground.

FH- blue valentine is great grandfather on top. Docs Hickory is also great grandfather on topside.

he has peppy san badger on bottom but its pretty far back as far as i can see.
