A Question

While watching the Taters play Arkansas, there was an unfortunate incident where an Arkansas player was hit and had to be carted off the field to the hospital.

The replay of the hit was shown numerous times...and after watching Nate Gerry get called for targeting and ejected after making a picture perfect textbook tackle, I felt sure that the responsible Tater would get called for targeting....because he did virtually everything that would constitute targeting according to what was explained during the Nebraska game. But nobody on the announcing team even mentioned the word targeting. Did I miss something or did the Taters get away with one?

How can no helmet to helmet contact be called targeting, but leading with the head and direct, violent helmet to helmet contact get a pass?

This one?

It's clearly targeting.

Wrong game, genius. Gerry was also ejected from the UCLA-Nebraska bowl game for targeting. That was the call in question vs the collision I witnessed during theTater-Arkansas game. Every announcer plus ESPN's rules wizard said there was no way Gerry should have been flagged. But yet he was, and then ejected. Yes, the call during our Iowa game was correct.

These damned referees are even worse than the DOT idiots. Ask 4 of them the same question, get 4 different answers.

I hope that Arkansas player is OK. The Tater that nailed him got away with it, IMHO.

Worst call I've seen all year was in the Huckster vs Mich State game. Right at the end when the receiver went out of bounds and came back in.

Your negative calls weren't game changing, but that Huckster call definitely was.................. Just think, if ya'll hadn't beat Mich State, they might have at least scored a field goal on Alabama!!! LMFAO

I did not see the hit, but several friends said they expected an ejection. not sure WHY it was not called.... any hit on a defenseless player is bad. but an INTENTIONAL hit on a defenseless player is unacceptable. the health of the players MUST be protected

Doesn't matter what team the kid played for, from all the replays on TV he should have been ejected....it was that blatant. The announcers are never at a loss for words or giving their opinions on a call, and they said NOTHING. I'll bet it's on YouTube. Like I said, I hope that kid from Arkansas is OK.

This has been debated by folks a LOT smarter than you or me. According to the rules, the correct call was made. Get over it...Sparty did, and they had a little more skin in that game than you did, Mike. The outcome of a game is inconsequential compared to a player possibly ending up a paraplegic, and the flag never being thrown.

Quit whining about the hit on the Arky kid. I watched it several times and it didn't look egregious at all. Appeared to be a normal tackle made by an aggressive defense.

But at least now we know that Nate Gerry has a habitual history of bad hits on defenseless players.

Oh, I see. If Thug conference players or Taters do it and get away with it, it's fine, just normal tackles made by an aggressive defense.

If Nate Gerry does it, why, he has a habitual history of bad hits on defenseless players. Anything to bag on Nebraska. If you think Gerry's hit in the UCLA game was a bad hit, or targeting, you are even blinder than the ACC officials who worked that game.

When the team you pull for is a complete "has been", and you repeat redundantly how many ancient titles they have to anyone with ears, the respect factor tends to be pretty low even with the officials.

Maybe if you had a coach as respected as Snyder, the whole world wouldn't look at your disdain for him as sour grapes.....Plus the fact that running away from an adversary opponent and making excuses for joining the poorest division in an unquestionably weak conference won't win any ribbons either.

Just take a look in the mirror for the reason the Hucksters get no respect. It will take a long time to get over the words Bo spoke in that interview when he said something to the effect of, 'f__k the fans'. Nothing personal, just the way I see it.

first time I have seen the hit, looks to me like the guy was going in for a tackle, as the player was being taken down from behind. obvious head to head contact, but appears inadvertent to me.... hope the kid is ok, and ejection is questionable.

you know Loomix, your dick would be bigger if you did not use 3/4 of it as your personality.

What coach in college FB is as respected as Snyder? I think Snyder represents what is good d about college FB, but still there are plenty of incedents in his program that could be used to tarnish his reputation.

From what was shown during the broadcast, I didn't see it the way you did, especially after seeing the hit Gerry put on the UCLA kid, and then Gerry's ejection. Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the call.

As for your last remark, it takes one to know one.
