This WAS a true " man"......

Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83.

I posted about this on CT about 9:30 this morning, and I can't believe the lack of responses. I guess people either didn't like him as an actor or didn't like his politics. Whatever.

Personally, I mourn his death. He did so much for so many people, both with his acting and his charities. If I made a list of my top ten movies, I'll bet five or six of them would be his. And even if you didn't like his politics, he had a lot of class about it, and how could anyone deny the things he did to make the lives of so many people better?

Yes, he was a real man, and a great actor. I'll miss him.

I haven't went to many movies since the loss of the great ones- John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Gary Cooper, etc.- but I did see every one of Newmans...And yep your right- great actor, great person...He lived a life he can be proud of....

"Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" was a splendid movie, starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. I saw it in the summer of 1970, in a movie theater in Jackson, Wyoming.

Here is a quaint Paul Newman story that you might enjoy if you haven't heard it before.

Paul Newman

Only women of a certain era will fully appreciate this.... true story. (if you don't understand this, tell your mother, she'll get it)

A Michigan woman and her family were vacationing in a small New England town where Paul Newman and his family often visited.

One Sunday morning, the woman got up early to take a long walk. After a brisk five-mile hike, she decided to treat herself to a double-dip chocolate ice cream cone.

She hopped in the car, drove to the center of the village and went straight to the combination bakery/ice cream parlor.

There was only one other patron in the store. Paul Newman, sitting at the counter having a doughnut and coffee.

The woman's heart skipped a beat as her eyes made contact with those famous baby-blue eyes.

The actor nodded graciously and the star struck woman smiled demurely.
Pull yourself together! She chided herself. You're a happily married woman with three children, you're forty-five years old, not a teenager!

The clerk filled her order and she took the double-dip chocolate ice cream cone in one hand and her change in the other. Then she went out the door, avoiding even a glance in Paul Newman's direction.

When she reached her car, she realized that she had a handful of change but her other hand was empty. Where's my ice cream cone? Did I leave it in the store? Back into the shop she went, expecting to see the cone still in the clerk's hand or in a holder on the counter or something. No ice cream cone was in sight.

With that, she happened to look over at Paul Newman. His face broke into his familiar warm friendly grin and he said to the woman, "You put it in your purse."

Wonder if KooKoo would feel this way about Mr. Newman knowing he was half Jewish, or in spite of the fact he has half Jewish?

I heard he once had a load of toilet paper made up with Redford's picture on every square and had it delivered to Redford's house. I can appreciate a man with a sense of humor like that!
