I'd call it a gimmick. Works along the lines of the old nerve lines. Ruined lots of horses in the wrong hands, which was most everybody that used it in my opinion.

Gimmick for sure!!Should be able to drop you horses head with your hands.A soft feel to get collection,takes a little time to get it,but well worth the time in my opinion.Anytime you have pulleys and such to train a horse you have to wonder.

Personally, I prefer a snaffle, with eventual graduation to a shank.
I'd have to agree with both thoughts...............I'd prefer to stay in a ring snaffle unless the horse gives me a reason to go further................course I ain't smart enuff to figure out how to use all the pulleys & ropes either :wink: :lol:

lots of folks figure head up don't buck and want to keep their hosses head there...
looks to me like it was made for folks that are scared to get bucked off...into the fence...again... :roll:

I start all my colts in a halter,works kinda like a pencil bosal.Then i'll let them pack a snaffle around,and two rein them for a couple days,helps them get the feel of the snaffle without bumping on their mouth right away.All that time,i'll be asking for a couple steps of collection here and there to get them dropping thier nose and asking for vertical and lateral flexion.If you've done your ground work well,it's real simple once your ahorse back.And best of all,NO GIMMICKS!!Soon as they feel a little pressure from the reins they drop their nose and find a release of pressure,and you just build a few steps at a time,till you can pick up on them and get them to keep that collection as long as you need.Anything you need to get accomplished can be done without gimmicks if given enough time and patience!Although not everyone can take as long to get the horse going as others it pays off in the end horse.I don't use martingales,but some of my freinds do and they work for them,so use what your comfortable with,but it wont be the same after you take the gimmick off the horse.
I honestly think that is the key to a good start on a colt............saves alota time (and pain)plus puts the basics on 'em............I'll even use it on an older horse if need be........
My biggest problem is colts (or older horses) pickin the bit up. Gets to be a guessin game as to what will work with them........but I've gathered up a pretty good collection of bits, so I find somethin sooner or later :roll:
