On Saturday a 45 year old farmer from the area lost his life in a horrific accident with a tractor and loader during a spring cleanup operation with his 12 year old son.

They were picking up the plastic cover in a pit silo with the son running the tractor. Somehow the son hit forward instead of reverse on the shuttle shift and pinned his dad against the silo wall with the loader bucket, killing him instantly.

This young man will have a really tough time out of this, I'm afraid. He and his family will need our prayers. So terribly sad, such a burden and emotional aftermath for him to carry.

So sad. :(

It's going to be tough for the son to come to terms with what happened.another example of how we put ourselves in danger. What was the father doing between the bucket and the wall. :?

Sad deal for sure. I almost experienced a similar outcome from a slightly different situation. I will do my best to not ever put my kids in that position. Sometimes just a few simple additional steps or precautions can make a big difference.

That's hard to hear without even knowing them.

A good man lost his life here two weeks ago when he left his dog in the cab of the tractor with the bale in the air to open an electric gate. The guess is that the dog jumped up on the hydraulic tilt controls and dropped the bale on top of him. He was able to crawl out from under the bale and into the tractor but died after bleeding out internally from the femoral artery.

Don't have kids and dogs in the cab!
