No charges will be filed in an accident that killed a 15-year-old Minatare girl. Nicole Everhart, who recently moved to Minatare from Atkinson with her family, died Saturday at Regional West Medical Center after suffering serious head injuries in the accident, Scotts Bluff Deputy County Attorney Doug Warner said.

Warner said Everhart had been riding on a innertube being pulled by a horse through the snow. During a turn, the tube "went wide" into a concrete feed bunker, and Everhart struck her head on the bunker. "It's just a real unfortunate accident," Warner said.

Local funeral services for Everhart were held Wednesday at the Mitchell Berean Church. Funeral services will also be held Friday in Atkinson.
Warner said area ambulance crews and rescue departments, as well as the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident.

Last year, just after Christmas we had a good sized ice storm and 2 kids were being pulled on the ice on the county road by their father or brother on boogie boards.

The mule truck that was pulling them started sliding on the ice and couldn't get a grip and somehow one of the kids got run over in the melee!

The other kid got a broke leg in the process also.

Such things like that are soooo dangerous cause you have no control.

Sad to have that happen just after the holidays. I know the place well as I used to live in NE and my father managed an Angus operation that held their dispersion sale at the Ankony place in the early 70's. Holidays are such a bad time to lose someone makes them hard for years to come. We lost our friend and neighbor Dec 16 in a snowmobile accident in MT and his family is having a hard time. Really feel for the girl's family and friends.
