We were processing about 160 cows today getting them ready for calving in late February and march. We were needling them with ScourGuard 3K and one cow threw her self forward while I was needling her and she broke the syrindge and drove the needle and about 5 cc's of the vaccine into my hand. I really havent been feeling to good and my hand swelled up. It happened around 4 pm this afternoon. Im starting to feel better now. I was wondering if anyone knew how dangerous this stuff is?

If I were you, I'd call my vet and ask him/her. No need to take chances - it might counter your Viagra :D

Still young enough don't need Viagra yet...lol.

I called the head of veterinarians for Manitoba and he said the vaccine is no problem, but he was worried about the preservative that is used to keep the vaccine fresh.

Thanks for the information Sandhusker

Hows the weather your way?

Be thankful that it wasn't Micotal............ Thats deadly.

I had a needle poke with Ivomec about 15 years ago and the "lump" is still there today. Other than a clean bandage and antibiotics when it swelled up, I wasn't good bad off.

I wonder how things will go the next time you have an overdose of veggies?

Hope everything works out.

Well, you probably will not have the runs for a few weeks!

Just in case it happens again. The procedure my neighbour used when he vaccinated himself with something was as follows:

Grab the paper in the box, read it, find the active ingredients. (If you are like me and throw that stuff away call the vet.) Get the vet to call your local poison control. The poison control folks can tell you what the dangers may or may not be. And, they have almost all of that stuff on file. There are some pretty dangerous things out there in vet medicines.

Anyway, glad you are ok.

I have that T-shirt as well. Only it was another drug and in another location.

Heres the MSDS sheet. Looks like things should be alright

I'd be concerned about infection as well, especially if the needle had been in a cow or two before you stuck yourself. If it starts swelling, and turning red, get to a doctor.

Our neighbour did the same thing with blackleg vaccine. You want to see a hand swell up! It was incredible.

I heard that since you have repeated esposure to sheep genitals that you are imune to ground born diseases such as "scours". Maybe you should be more careful next time. GOD forbid your vet ever let you use Micotil.

You should know you have had your lips pressed against them long enough :lol2:

MR- You still alive? Want me to send up some prune juice? Reminded me of a story- problem you may not have for awhile........

A young reporter went to a retirement home to interview an aged but legendary Canadian explorer. The reporter asked the old man to tell him the most frightening experience he had ever had.

The old explorer said, "Once I was hunting Grizzly Bear in the far northwest. I was on a narrow path and my faithful native gunbearer was behind me. Suddenly the largest grizzly I have ever seen leaped onto the path in front of us. I turned to get my weapon only to find the native had fled. The grizzly leapt toward me with a mighty ROARRRR! I soiled myself."

The reporter said, "Under those circumstances anyone would have done the same."

The old Canadian said, "No, not then - just now when I went 'ROARRRR!'"

It's been pretty decent the last few days. A little cooler and windy this morning. On Friday, it was actually a degree warmer here than in Tampa, Florida. I've got a good buddy down there. He was upset - he said he goes thru hurricanes and jungle heat in the summer - he wants a little warmpth in the winter for compensation.

OT-

Thats quite a story .... made me chuckle. Yup still alive and kicking jsut a slightly swollen hand, but its not holding me down. Its sure a darn nice day out there. Hope to get some bales hauled home today as we bought another 400 round bales to have as an extra should we have a long drawn out spring like last year! Hows things down your way OT?

Sandhusker:

Yeah Its sure been nice here of late. Its been getting up over the freezing mark and theres even some snow starting to melt. Been warm enough at night we havent even had to put cows in the heated calving barn to calve. Makes it easier on the cattle and on the people looking after them. We ve got a close neighbor that married a women from near Naples Florida and he is living down there working for a Construction company making the big $$$$, and he loves it! Cant say if I ve ever been there. Have a great day!

Pretty nice today-suppose to get near 50-- predicting its suppose to turn cold with a chance of snow flurries-- Predicting highs in teens and twenties and lows down around 0 - I can handle that for Feb.

Definitely something going to happen- horses were acting up this morning-bulls were fighting something terrible-knocked one feeder across the lot like it was a thimble- spent the morning patching up their damage- one is gonna become hamburger- he's always trying to fight......

Isnt it a bugger when those big bastards start acting like that. We have 20 bulls including the Brahma X and they all like to fight on a warm day. Got much snow left down there OT?

Yeah and the fighter is also a herder-- pain in the butt to try to move cows when he runs around trying to turn them back-- I almost wore out the end of a lariat last year beating on his rear when I was moving pastures---

We have little snow left- just in the sheltered areas- hills are all bare...Still a few little drifts in the yard- gets back down in the 20's it will be a skating rink....Saddled a couple of two year olds up today- but my round pen is still too slick to do much with them- need to hit the lottery so I can build an indoor arena- that or get rid of a few more horses

I just checked my lottery ticket and found I hit the jackpot! Won $10.00!

I've decided not to quit my job or let all that new found wealth go to my head though.

Just going to keep on farming till it's all gone instead. :D

Several years ago the local paper ran an article on me- one of the questions on the profile I filled out was- What would you do if you won the lottery?

My answer was "buy a bigger place so I could go broke faster"..
