advice on corn planters

We have fan bothe case and John Deere. The Deere is very simple and parts on old ones are the same as new ones. On a Deere look at the depth wheels that adjust how deep the disks go in. Grab them and lift up and down make sure they are not froze up from not greasing. Also measure the diameter of the disks themselves. I think they recommend replacing if they are less than 14.5 inches but don't quote me ill have to get back to you on that. It will tell you in the book.

Denny's picture of that IH400 would be perfect for what you are wanting to do. I dont want to start a war here but if you buy green paint you are going to pay more for even a used piece and I am a JD guy. But you are going to get what you pay for.

This planter is an 800 the 400 is a 4 row model I had before this one but not alot of differance.

Those 800 and 900 planters are hard to beat. Super easy to work on and you don't have to mess with cups/plates.

Wish you could find a 12 row in our area for what you say they bring up there.

Hayguy. I am in the proscess of getting it up on Amazon as both a digital and hardcopy book. Right now we are trying to get it on Amazon.ca but have to go thru Amazon.com to do this and if only stay on Amazon.com can't use Canadian credit card to buy it. As soon as this gets sorted out it's a go soon i hope. It's been two years in the making so am getting excited. If it's allowed on here I will let everyone know when.

any news yet?

You really need to talk to RSL..... has some experience. was all gung ho a couple of years ago and after talking to him changed my mind ... neighbor a few miles away grew some for winter graze, early snow storm with lot's of wind filled it in to the heighth of the corn. another neighbor seed's some and turns cow's into it when he's off harvesting, seem's to work for him.both places just used their air seeder to seed with.

I seed corn and grain sorghum with one of those gizmos behind the tractor that tosses the seed about 15 feet to either side and behind. Same day the seeds are dispersed I cover it and hope for rain.

If one is not going be applying lots of chemicals or fertilizer, I don't see the need for rows. With the grain sorghum, I run over foot-high plants applying herbicide or urea and they spring right back up.

ran both IH and JD planters...I prefer to go John Deere, and a vacuum model. that is just my preference. I found the JD to have a more accurate seed placement, and a better machine for faster planting. IH seems to limit you in speed. some times I plant at 6 mph. 7 or 8 mph if a rain is pushing in.....

If I was looking for hard to find DJ parts I would call this guy:http://www.greynfertilizer.com/default.htm
