advice on fitting a saddle and how a horse rides

I bought it brand new in 96, but it was on sale. I sat in it on the rack and it felt like it had been built for me but I walked away from it at first then my wife got mad at me and insisted I go back and get it(I think she just wanted my old saddle). There is a picture of it on your post "take a picture of your gear"

Can the saddle you build for me keep me from getting bucked off or my pony from stumbling and falling on me? that is where this one needs the most improvement. :wink: and maybe a little more room to compensate for the extra pounds I've gained since getting married. :wink:
 
Custom built saddles is kinda like custom made boots....they just fit more better. And 99% of the time look better than what you'd buy off a shelf or rack.
So many of the saddles these days (name brand that we've all heard of) are built in Mexico, and shipped to the US, and stamped with a saddle Co's name and sold as if it were one that was made by the company that is on it. Quality has gone wayyyy down.

I put on a couple pictures of the saddle that doesn't fit my horse. It is a full quarter bar saddle. My horse isn't that big, and in my vast array of knowledge (NOT) of this subject of saddle fitting, shouldn't it fit down over him if the bars were right on this saddle?? The one picture shows the daylight all the way under the saddle. Also, when I set the saddle on the saw horse, I can rock it with my thumb from front to back. It feels like it is pivoting on just one small point on the bars. My husbands saddle doesn't do this. Pretty sure I want to take it and get my money back unless I don't know what i'm talking about! I also checked the tree and it doesn't feel broken.

GO PRICE A NEW ONE JUST LIKE IT AND LET ME KNOW THE PRICE. I MIGHT JUST BE ABLE TO DO IT.

YUP, MAYBE NOT KEEP YOU FROM IT, BUT HELP ANYWAYS. I JUST CAN'T GARUNTEE IT AS LEAKPROOF, THO. YOU MIGHT NOT BE AS GOOD A RIDER AS YOU LOOK. LOL

A LITTLE MORE ROOM SURE AIN'T NO PROBLEM. 'COURSE THAT EXTRA BIG TREE IS GONN'A RUN THE COST UP SOME!:PLUS ALL THE EXTRA LEATHER TO COVER IT WIT. AND THEN THE POSTAGE FOR AN EXTRA BIG, EXTRA HEAVY SADDLE IS BOUND TO COST MORE. MAYBE YOU JUST BETTER GO ON A DIET!wink:

Sounds like it's got too much rock in the bars. It does look like it should fit down lower, with full qh bars. By the way all, qh bars are not a type of bar, but the amount of twist in the front of the bars, and perhaps the amount of rock also.

Full qh bars should fit a horse with a very flat back and little or no withers. IMHO.

I would guess that there was a mistake on this tree and someone sold you one or sent one that isn't full qh bars. But I could be wrong.

Good job on the photo's, but I really can't tell much without seeing and feeling of the saddle while it is on a horse. I'd come visit, for the right price! :wink: :lol:

Funny, that this saqddle appeared to have fit him a couple of years ago. He must have grown quite a bit.
 
He was a late bloomer! He also doesn't get any special treatment. It all had to come natural and in his own time. He does get fat on just grass hay though- he's a pretty easy keeper. Especially since he didn't get worked too hard. He is bred for cow and to RUN. It doesn't take too much to make him hot! I don't grain him. Even alfalfa will do it.

Charlie was thinking that maybe you should keep the saddle & get rid of the horse. I am willing to do my part & take the horse off your hands.

JK nice looking horse hope you get this saddle fix or one that fits you & the horse......

Paul, Glad you like the horse, but not can do on letting him go :lol: Raised him from a bady. We sold out a couple years ago :cry: I loved that stud. He was also a buckskin and a grandson of SunFrost. That makes this bloodlines of this horse Doc Bar, Driftwood, Harlan and King on top and he is pretty heavy Otoe on the bottom :P . He is the only horse left on the place.
