Do any of ya'll age and source verify your calves. If you do have you seen a premium paid for these calves.

I am fixin to wean a set of calves and do have birth dates on all calves. Won't cost me much to certify thru a PVP program but am wondering if it will be worth the hassle.

Some packers have removed the premiums due to decreased exports and the need for BEV calves.

USPB's premium was $25 bucks before they dropped it.

I wonder if the NCBA will add that to the $175 per head loss because of the bans in place?

Not sure if you will get a premium, but I have been visiting with a bigger feedlot the past couple weeks and he told me that they will not bid on or buy anything from now on, unless they are source and age verified. This is a onetime capacity of 30,000 head. If many more lots are talking like this, I know their will be a discount before long.

I predict that this next downcycle will show big discounts if you do not have your calves source and age verified and if you do not have any feedlot/carcass history on your calves.

We sell all of our calves as source and age verified. We get 1or 2 dollar per hundred weight premium. It is not much but it doesn't really cost anything since we do all of the tracking for our individaul preformance data.

We are source and age verified, just cleaned out our pens for $20/hd premium. We also keep track of everything for our own information so we are getting the 20 for doing what we already do. BRG I think is correct, as this cycle continues, source and age will be the norm and anything else will be discounted. You don't have to have every calfs age, just first and last, but we have them all and it pays, grader tried to give some of our cattle B-maturity when they were verified at 18 months. That is a huge discount.

Is USDA's Beef Export Verification Program-- They have a different set of rules-- age, birthdate, origin, SRM removal, feed restrictions, etc. etc. for almost every country we export to....
