AI Sires?

Denny: Take a look at Boyd New Day 8005. I like him as well as his calves I have seen. The bushwacker calves I have seen are very nice thick deep calves but I would not use him on heifers. His birth weight is above 3 whitch to me means cows only.
The bull I used on my heifers is F A R Krugerrand 410H. He has much lower birth weight than Bushwacker but still sires growing calves. Genex had him discounted from $30 down to $20 when I bought him in Jan.
A bull that has given me some very nice bull calves that eat and gain is
S A Neutron 377. I used one of his sons last year for my clean up bull and have been very pleased with his calves except for birth weight so use him on cows only.

I used Bushwacker last year on heifers they calved unassisted they are some growing machines.We put cydrs in 30 head of heifers yeasterday so next week the heifers will be done.We will do 30 cows in a month then the bulls can finish up.
 
Wadekampers raised some Bushwacker bulls. I saw them go through their sale and was impressed by two things. They had really great dispositions. I also mfelt the had that classy look to them.

Rito 6I6 hasn't been mentioned or I missed it. I bred some heifer to him this spring, will see next year. I feed out my calves, so carcass is important to me. I know a guy that really speaks favorably of the disposition on these calves,

[ My first post so I don't knw how this will turn out . I have used Bushwacker and haven't been overly impressed,yet but I am still going to use him. Interesting comment about Freightliner as I am going to use him to downsize some of my 416 daughters. I am primarily breeding for replacement heifers. Freightliner really complements 416 with respect to carcass IMO. Also I have had some positive remarks on Freightliner from people I have talked to. I have read that 410H throws bad udders and I hate bad udders so I won't be using him. Anyway just my thoughts as we all know the cow is 1/2 the equation also.



I know Bushwacker is popular, and one of the purebred breeders here used him and says he will use him again. I do like his pedigree, but for us, he is not a heifer bull. The outfit here that used him got 88 lb. bw, 87 lb. bw, 94# and 80# out of cows.
I like 6595, actually saw the bull at Hawkeye in Billings. We have used him too. I would choose something else from Conneally besides Freightliner. I just can't tolerate 598. Our experience with a Traveler 416 son out of a 598 daughter was not good. Hard fleshing and BIG. Nothing like 416's. We used him until he got so big and narrow. We were going to pound him out and a neighbor begged us to let him buy him as he was in a wreck and needed a bull bad, so we did. On that grass, the bull fell totally apart. The heifers we kept out of him were tall, narrow and hard doing. We got rid of all of them. In talking to the bull breeder we got him from, he confirmed the problem was 598. They had several daughters they got rid of because of the same thing. So there might be a little heads up on Freightliner. The Frontlines are supposedly good, as are the Datelines and Timelines. In our area, I hear resistance to Freightliner.
 
You never know until you try it, but I really don't think Freightliner will downsize your 416 daughters. If anything, I would bet he will add size.

How do you like those 416's? I always was real interested in him and was always told he would not add frame. He would hold frame, but not add. A friend of ours who is a registered breeder in Kansas used him and didn't care for the calves at weaning so he cut them all. He said the older they got the better they looked. So the next year he kept them as bulls and they turned out great. Actually a friend of ours from Texas went to him and bought several 416's and was extremely happy with the steer calves and the way the heifers turned out.
 
I love the looks of the 416 daughters but depending on their dam ( some of mine are B/R N Design 016 granddaughters and some are EXT granddaughters) their size varies. The larger 016 daughters I'm breeding to Freightliner the smaller EXT I'm breeding to Expectation 4915. I guess we'll see what happens. Another bull I've used that I like is Perry Power Design and I intend to use him some more in the future. I'm beginning to look harder at the new $EN epd and from what I've seen it is holding true with my Bushwacker being a little harder keeper than my 416 females. Just some of my thoughts.
 
I have one 416 daughter she calves late every year she had a bull calf last year which was 2 months younger than the oldest calves he was bigger than any of them by fall but was a steer oops.
 
I heard an Ad for Sinclair Land and Cattle I think it was. The sale was in Wyoming. Said they had the original N- cattle blood lines. Anybody know what is up. I could be mistaken as the ad was almost over before I realized what they said. :cowboy:

Sinclair does indeed look very interesting to say the least. The only thing I know about them for sure is that Tom Elliot, the owner of the former N Bar, is their breeding advisor. That tells me he is pretty much the brains behind the operation.

Interesting Denny, because if I had one thing bad to say about the 416 females it seems as if they are a little late coming into their first heats compared to the other heifers but to look at them you would say that they are the most mature looking if the bunch. But then again I could have just missed the heats although I don't think so.
 
Faster Horses: I went to a branding yeasterday at a friends.

He has a Viking Shoshone GD60 son out of a Traveler 6807 daughter.I asked him if we could collect some semen off him and he said we could so I am getting it lined up time to fill my tank...........He has up 3rd calvers from him boy there nice cattle the calves were quite soggy thick made and fancy.
 
We bought two bulls at the Sinclair sale yesterday. I didn't go myself, so I can't tell you a lot about the cattle in general. We purchased bulls in the last three years of the original N-Bar, and I love 'em. These cattle are the nucleus of the original N-Bar herd, with some Sinclair breeding thrown in. The bulls that had higher birthweights were harder to sell it seems. They got down in the 1500 dollar range, but they did have a good sale. The bull I wanted and liked on paper brought 37,500 dollars. They had an own son of Emulation 31 for sale, but don't know what he brought.

My goal is not to raise the heaviest calves in the country, but I do want the most profitable ones. The offspring from these bulls grow like weeds, and the cows hardly have to lay down in order to have a calf.

On cold raw days like these, angus really shine. It's barely over freezing with our usual strong wind.

jake when you said the bull you picked out on paper went for $37,500 I knew you were just like me. A guy with a good eye, expensive tastes and a budget. It is nice to see that you can pick'em. :cowboy:
 
Oh, my, Denny. WHAT A FIND! You are right, IMO, to jump right on it. Especially when you've seen some progeny. Excellent!!

As for Emulation 31 cattle,they are just too wild for us old folks. Too bad, too, because they do a lot of things right. Our daughter and her husband applied for a job with N-Bar, probably in 1987. The calves were on the ground at that time and I remember both of them remarking how much they liked the 5522's.
 
I have a whole whack of semen out a bull fromm 5522's full sister and GT Max-he really puts some guts in cattle and is alot more fertile than the direct GT Max's. When Dennis Johnson left the N-Bar he absconded with a package of their top cows. This bull is an 'A' model but we still breed cows to him A'I every year. Give me a call if anybody wants some semen. He was one of the top sellers at one of the first 'Rancher's Choice' sales.
