Am I Missing Something!!

I never pay attention to a bull's actual BW unless I know how his dam was managed during gestation.

Or at least see a sampling of his contemporary's weights.

Had to feed a group of springing cows one Fall a few years back because of a drought.

The average calf BW was 12 lbs. higher that year bred to the same bull as the year before.

Mike, I understand what you're saying, but I still like to see the actual BW listed in lbs. I have owned heifer bulls that worked well with actual BW in the low 80s.

That's the same criteria I use for heifer bulls. In fact I wouldn't mind if all my bulls fit that criteria.

Judging from your pictures I think you and I have a lot of the same likes in cattle.

Welll a good manager can manufacture pretty much any weaning weight you want lol.

And an unhonest manager can fudge epd's, birth weights, actual sire/cow..... sometimes I wonder on some of these big, or high dollar backed outfits?

I calve alot of 800-900# 1st calf heifers and don't have trouble to speak of and I have bred 1st calf heifers to bull's not recommended for heifers.
Heifers that are well fed and fat normally will have more trouble than a properly conditioned animal.I make all of my cows walk a 1/4 to 1/2 mile each day for water exercise I think limit's your troubles also.

My wife is 4-11 and 115#s and has had 5 children no c-section's.

I've seen some friends wives weigh over 200#s and have a c-section

Fat is not good for man nor beast.

Wife hit me on the side of the head with a small newspaper after reading and said it might have had a lot to do with the other half - and perhaps some epds needed to be put up for us all to see!!
