We had a storm blow thru here last nite more wind and lightnin than anything else but rain gauge had .7 this morning hay fields some how look greener, and the cold can of soup I had in the dark for supper last nite seems like a small price for a good rain
good luck

Glad you got some rain Haymaker. Around here the hay is getting weedy, can't cut for raining every 2 or 3 days. Everyone is behind. The rowcrop farmers are in pretty good shape although some had to replant several acres which got too much rain.

We had the same rain and it was a welcome sight. Now there a good chance of the bermuda grass jumping up for cutting and getting seed on the ground at the other place :D

Ok now that you got a taste of moisture Haymaker, where is the heat and wind i said i would trade you for?I would gladly send you this inch of rain we are suppose to get again today,if i only could.

We are already getting it as of last night and this morning. It's sure not hurting us but there is still a bunch of crop to get in the ground and those guys are starting to hurt.

It rained most of the night here...well after about 1am. Started with thunder and lightenin...and I went to sleep by that tune. It's still drippin off the house now...and there's puddles everywhere. Haven't been out and about to do a whole lot cuz it just looks like it's too wet to do much. This rain came on top of the 1 3/4 inches we got Sunday. So our hayfields and pastures should be in good shape for a lil while. Thankfully we'd gotten both hay fields cut and baled before the rain Sunday.

Glad you got some of it Haymaker :D

Another inch would almost guarantee me a hay crop, sure lookin better maybe we will make a few bales yet.......................good luck

We picked up .15 in a thunderstorm last evening- and then this morning I got up to another thundershower and picked up another .15...

After that the sky cleared nicely- sun came out- and we had nice weather (70 degrees right now)- as we loaded and hauled out bulls...And the prairie looks good...As I trailed the bulls from the road in- every low spot had water standing-- and the old cows and calves were all laying around chewing their cuds..... :D

We've had over 6 inchs for the month of May- and over 8 inchs so far this spring- and thats more than we sometimes get all year... :)

And the best thing today was I trapped 2 coons that were getting into my feed barrels and sacks in the barn....Hoping that was the only two...

Yeeeeee Hawwwww! Bout time a good rain shows up. Looks plum tropical today since that unexpected low formed after the "dry line" punched thru last night and now sucking up that moisture from the gulf and sending it around to us.

Got 8/10ths last night and it has been raining steady for about 3 hours so far today. Maybe another half to 3/4s. Keep it comming and we just might be able to grow a little forage before it burns up again.

Just hope it can rain again in a week or at least before the end of June or July.

Your right Allen! I thought it was gonna be just a front coming through but I checked the radar about 3 hours ago and saw it was all going in a counter-clockwise spin now. I swear my brothers melon plants spread out another 4 inches since just yesterday! And the yellow squash was popping out left and right. The deer found his green beans but left the tomatoes alone. Amazing what this 2" + rain is doing! I'll take it!

Mr Lilly's dad said we got 1 1/2 inches here at the house over night....and another 1 3/4 inches on top of the same amount we got out there Sunday. And it's been steadily rainin here again today since about 3pm.

Next week they got 50-40-60 percent chane of rain in the forcast for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. That would be nice too but with their forecasting accuracy, it sure isn't going to get me to go out and buy a couple loads of fertilizer.

Well when I got home from Nacogdoches today there was 3 inches in the old gauge. You can hear the grass growing now. I have fertilize coming next week so it would be nice if we got this again next week.

That seems to be the big challenge, getting the next rain in a timely manner.

I'm rolling the dice and not going to fertilize. I reduced the herd by 1/3 in the fall of 2008 and spring of 2009. If it rains I'm betting I can grow enough forage and still get another cutting of hay from somewhere. If it doesn't keep raining fertilizer isn't going to help anyway.

Goes back to the fact that we don't even come close to make a living off my little spread. If all we can do is break even (if I'm lucky) I might as well break even doing less and risking less. Although I sort of enjoy what I'm doing, it isn't a "hobby".
