Well the other day 4-11-2013 we had a very unexpected event happen here on the campus of South Dakota State University. We had a snow day!!! Well 10 inches of snow and unplowed streets encouraged us to run down the streets on the ag side of campus, have snow ball fights and to be quite honest, make that run to Wal-mart before the beer was out of the coolers. Well my roommate and I braved the elements and wandered over to the apartment just a 1/2 block from Hansen Hall and cooked and baked up a storm for our West River friends. After the food ran out we thought it would be an excellent idea to go outside and make a snow man. Well not just any snowman, a snow steer. Here are a few pics of our afternoon in the snow!

Purple banner and all

After the pictures were taken I tweeted them on the social media site Twitter to Keloland Television and we made the 6 o'clock news that night. It was a great time with great friends and made the news. We all could safely say that was the first time we had ever done that.

After this the shenanigans began

Can you find the white Grand Prix?

That was the end of our snow day. Did a bunch of catch up homework and spent time with really great friends. Hope everyone fared out of the storm alright. Have a good rest of the weekend and a blessed week too come.

Seeing the car covered in snow brings back some memories. When I was in college one of my night jobs was working in a loading dock warehouse at night. I took a roll of wraping plastic and a night of drinking me and a couple of my buddies, wrapped a friend of mines pickup with a whole roll of the stuff. Got a pretty good laugh watching hime spending a hour getting it all off his pickup.

Having never attended SDSU, nor any other, but a great fan of SDSU, I can say I'm pretty proud of you and friends for the quality of your 'wild' escapades on a snow day shenanigans! Good looking 'snowman', too.

We had 'snow-cows' on this ranch early last week! Moisture is great, but makes it darn hard on the calving crew, with water/mud in places we definitely do not need it! Pasture calfing works great most years, but shelter is on creek bottoms, so not so great this year, this week, at any rate.

One of the cows did simply lie down and pop out a lively calf immediately after getting into the calving pasture after trailing nearly ten miles home yesterday! Several others calved really soon after getting there, but the one was right where the two riders dropped them off, so was seen happening.

One of the riders is pretty worn out today, as she is not working outdoors every day and they had to ride the distance to get to the cows, as well as back due to mud keeping pickup and trailer home.

Not the way the senior member of the crew prefers to move cattle, especially with him relegated to driving the tractor to feed some cattle, and another guy on an ATV. But, it worked and they got the cows home in due time, even if it wasn't a pretty trail drive. Sometimes, you just have to do what works, even if it isn't 'the cowboy way'.

We got a little rain early this morning, snow and rain forecast today and snow tonight. High of 42%, and chilly all week, with more snow.

We are thankful for the moisture, even if it would serve us better in a couple of weeks and at warmer temperatures. Is it wrong to pray for exactly what we believe is needed?????
