Angus Bull to use AI?

Well it turns out Greg has been up here fishing so we had lots to visit about-never did get around to the cattle yet.

 Luckily I was warned that if you had any questions about the cattle- do not mention hunting or fishing- or you never end up hearing about the cattle...

The Chinook bulls were bigger framed than I am used to, but good feet and legs they had plenty of muscle but most if not all went back to 6807 in some way or another . Darwin Peckham bought the bull for the cow side of the pedigree the cow is supposed to be super good with lots of longevity.

Oldtimer I have some seven son daughters the oldest will have there 2nd calves this spring so far I am impressed but I won't know for sure until they are 10 or 12 . I had a son of HBR Encore 0544 x windy ridge 523
that left me some nice females also. He broke his leg the day I pulled him out of the cows when I threw all the bulls together. Good thing is I still have semen on him.

OT that reminds me of the time I was supposed to be looking at red angus bulls but the guys wife had a mammoth jack stud that caught my eye. I apologized for wanting to discuss his wife's ash instead of his bulls. He kinda thought it was funny!

I saw some CAR Chinook two year old bulls at Mike Sitz's sale in Burwell NE and they looked really good . Chinook is owned by Darwin Peckham of South Dakota if you want his phone no. I can get it for you . The Cole Creek bulls have done an out standing job for me but I haven't got any black cedars or cedar ridges yet should have some in a couple weeks

Old timer if my memory serves me correctly you have a daughter out of Cole Creek Seven Son 67T how is she looking?

Black Out---This is her with her first calf- a 74 lb bull calf sired by Whitney Creek Bannon 730T...
She is Cole Creek Juanada Rita 69W 16453096... Mgs is HD Dunn High Mountain..

Calf came during the middle of our wet spring blizzard- altho I saw the heifer calving and got her in the barn before she had him so the calf missed out on some of worst part...But in order to make room for more cows/calves I kicked them out the next morning...
Today I looked all over for the calf- and found him laying by that barn door... I guess he wanted back in!! :P

Buttin in here
It may be a good idea for people AI this year to check semen quality from a indenpendent person (your local vet ? ) before one starts using it.
Ask to check for trich also. I have been told that some of these AI bulls are also used natural service then come back to get collected when needed.

Getting some complaints coming in from at least 3 bulls not very many if any calves from timed cow breeding..

Looks like my 67T's they should make good cows. Your heifer there looks really nice. Will you keep the calf for a bull?
Are you going to Greg's sale Monday ?
It is about an 8 or 9 hour drive from here ,I wanted to go but the weather here isn't supposed to be to favorable. We aren't supposed to start calving until the first of April but we already have 25 calves on the ground.I hate to leave my wife and kids to chore and calve with the weather the way it is . :(

We'll keep him as a bull for awhile... Usually have several culls on the bulls during the year-- first at branding- then toward weaning time- then after weaning until someone hauls them out of here... If they slip up- they get banded.....

This heifer is really quiet- and sure nice to handle...

We're probably not going to make Gregs sale either altho there are a couple of heifers there I would like to have....This weather just won't seem to give us a break... No warmup or relief in the blowing and snowing til about Tuesday-- and then with all the new snow/old snow melt it looks like we could get our roads flooded under by the Milk River that is already running bankful....
Windchill has been running below 0 with the temps in the teens and 20-30 mph winds- and you have to get those new calves out of the wind pretty fast...We lost another one last night between the 6AM check and the time I fed at 8:30AM... Have another in the warmer getting a blow dry now...

I just have never seen a winter like this- that seems to last forever- with continual weekly/biweekly storms...One storm ends- and two days later a new one starts....That has been the weather pattern here since November...

For info-- I've heard Cole Creek had a smoking hot sale Monday...Because of the weather we were unable to make it this year...
Unofficially $4200.00 average on the bulls and $1950 on the yearling heifers. Top bull 24K and a couple at 8 and 9k.

Lot 147 - $24,000 - to breeders from NE & NY - Real thick made, good bull. A Black Cedar son..
Lot 218 - $9,500 A Juanada Lad 81T son- Black Cedar 46P is mgs...
Lot 176 - $8,250 A Juanada Ridge 95R son...
We have a daughter out of the dam of the lot 176 (Cole Creek Juanadamere 102R) and sired by Goldmere 31N that is probably the nicest young cow in our herd...We kept a Rito Legacy grandson out of her that we are going to use on heifers this year.....
