Re: New Animal ID Fact Sheets Available
Two new Fact Sheets are now available as part of a set of materials on animal identification. These facts sheets will be of interest to U.S. cattle producers, industry groups and educators. Both Fact Sheets are available free on the World Wide Web (http://www.lmic.info/memberspublic/animalID/AnimalID.htm). Some additional animal ID materials and updates will be completed this summer.
John Lawrence, Ph.D, Professor and Director of the Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University, wrote the first new Fact Sheet. His Fact Sheet titled "Age Verification for Japan: What is Involved and is it Right for Me?" is very timely for U.S beef cattle producers. Glynn Tosnor, Ph.D, Assistant Professor at Michigan State University and Ted Schroeder, Ph.D, Professor at Kansas State University, wrote a new Fact Sheet titled "Lessons fro the U.S. Beef Industry Learned from the Australian National Livestock Identification Program". That Fact Sheet gives useful insight from another country as the U.S. moves toward an animal ID system.
These new fact sheets build on an set materials originally published in October 2004, the effort has been co-coordinated by Wendy Umberger, PhD, Assistant Professor at Colorado State University and DeeVon Bailey, PhD, Professor and Extension Economist at Utah State University. The Western Extension Marketing Committee, the Livestock Marketing Information Center and the Western Center provided Risk Management Education provided support and funding for this effort.
