Government officials in Panama have banned the importation of U.S. beef, according to the Associated Press. The development comes after the second case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy was confirmed in the U.S. last month.
Officials with the Agriculture Ministry in Panama say the ban is effective immediately. Following the first case of BSE in the U.S., in 2003, Panama banned beef imports. That ban was lifted last fall, limiting American beef imports to products that specifically came from animals under 30 months of age.
