And just for Pookie, here favorite colt from last year. Kind of a stout made little bugger! :D Hope he grows up big enough to keep my feet from dragging in the cactus when I'm ridin' him in another year or so!

While we were out and about, we found this youg feller. Seem to have a pretty good crop of them the past few years, what with most the fox and coyotes dyng from mange and parvo.

I let you know when she is weaned, about 1st of Nov? Bring your checkbook to pay for the grass she and her mama are going to eat. Or come now and you can just take them both for a slight fee.

Jingles, how is that boys neck coming along :) i know you were worried about him being a bit thick. He looks kinda half starved though I may need to come and take him off your hands. :D I'm not that tall so he's probably a better match for me anyhow :) Does he still have those really nice short hocks and pasterns I fell in love with when he was a wee baby :)

Didn' tyou look at the pic or are your glasses dirty, granny?

Granted, it wasn't the best angle, but I think you can see for yourself that yes he has low hocks and pasterns. If you'd care to make an offer, I will take it under consideration. But I do have a gentleman that wanted him real bad, last fall and I would have to see if he was willing to better your offer. :-)

Come visit and look at him, we'll talk.

Oh, and you forget that I am kind'a short legged also, so he just might really fit me. I'm sure he would never run nearly as fast as a TB breeder would like. :P

I already got an offer on the only colt from a neighbor who I know would treat him well and make a good usin' horse out of him. Dang. So many horse and I can only ride one at a time. :(

I just may have to find a young lady who has good hands to come and start putting a little education on some of these yearlings and two's.

:D

Dinglebob, I mean Jinglebob. Of course my glasses aint dirty. Theres green stuff all over the place and I can't see his throat cuz his head is down!

And what are you doing whining about fillies Mr. I told you it was gunna be a filly year and it was but nooooobody would listen to the west coaster... You knew you were gunna get fillies cuz I said so! I think TTB was the only one who had a bunch of colts.

Still think your gunna look funny with your legs bobbing along behind that fella, but you have been doing this way longer that I have. How did you stay atop those Brontasaurus anyhow? :P

I won first in the brontasourous ridin', when I was a pup.

'Course all the orhter guys gotr squished and I was the only surviver so my 32 score prevailed for high point ride. :D

If my feet go to draggin' I'll just sell that short little sumbuck!

JB....that bay is a NICE mare ----
maybe you got a filly cuz you need another NICE mare to go along with her :)

Probably sell the mares this fall and keep the fillies and the mare with the colt, that way I can cull that devective "mare" gene out of the herd. Maybe you'd like to come picker her up?

I ain't sure if she is the same one Mrs Greg wants or not. You better not take a chance and get in the first offer.

Bet they'd look good in NM. :D

Nobody ever give you that X-Y chromosome math thingy that explains why boys is boys and girls is girls ???

I'm SURE she would look good in NM --although she'd think we'd cut her throat and was starving her to death without all that green meadow stuff to eat!!

In another lifetime I'd love to be able to have her :)...right now I can't afford the hayburners I got!!!

those are nice baby's jb
al those fillies you'll have to keep some of those older geld's so as you won't be afoot or have to ride a mare

a saying from my grandad
"don't work the wemon and never ride a mare"

pookie was right i remember her saying it was going to be a fillie year
i have a freind in oklahoma that has a bunch of mares and they have all foaled out and he got one horse colt and the rest are fillies
my brotherinlaw has 8 mares i think and he got all horse colts this year
go figure that one
until later

Don't want to dispute Jerry, but some of the best horsemen I
know ride mares. If you don't ride them to know what they are,
what are you breeding into your program?

I just hate it when a mare is a RIP and someone says, "Well,
I'll just turn her out and breed her." GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
That is the factory, for crying out loud. And that colt spends way
more time with his dam than he ever does his sire. Yet all the
yakking is about the sire. We would do well to pay more attention
to the momma side, IMO.

fh
i agree 100% about the mares needing to be proven
and i agree that the babies get 80% of the dissposition from there mom
i geuss i should have been more clear about what i said and not put grandpa's saying as my own that's how he felt and he would not even start the fillies
but if one was a witch or had bad traits he would cull her quik

myself i work on differnt places and do alot of day work and neighboring and i have to be able to pull up to a place and turn my saddle horses in with thier's and if i show up with a mare most of the folks i have been around would have a fit
so i just buy geldings to ride myself
until later
jerry

Thanks Jerry. And I hear you loud and clear. We don't keep mares
ourselves. I know they can be excellent riding horses (and maybe better
than geldings), but as you said, they can sure
cause problems. It's hard enough keeping your geldings rideable
without throwing mares into the mix. I know some people get by
just fine, but it never worked for us.

Case in point: Someone gave our daughter a nice young filly years ago. She broke her to ride and she was a nice, nice horse. But man, those geldings were so in love with her. We came home one evening to find our good JB King gelding in the fence because of her. Luckily he was a smart old boy and just laid there until we came to get him out of the fence.
He could have just ripped himself apart.

Then when Bernadette (our daughter) was high-school rodeoing she would haul her
main horse to town to practice and took Millie, the filly, along. Those two
spent the evenings whinnying at each other instead of paying attention
to business. We finally had to sell the filly. Sad day it was, too. But
just couldn't put up with her anymore.

I didn't say I WOULDN'T ride a mare, I said I DIDN'T WANT to ride a mare, or at least that is what I meant.

I sent my fillies to my young guy who starts our colts, long enough to get an idea about what they were like, just as I did my stud.

If he say's they are pissheads, they ain't going to pass on any genetics here.

But mares are a pain, but then what do you expect, so are studs! Thats why we figured out many years ago to ride geldings.

You can ride a stud or a mare, but there is a lot more involved when doing as Jerry does, or going to the neighbors or anytime you have mares and studs or gelding together.

I know people who ride their mares and the Arabains prefer mares as when they get older they can raise colts out of them. But hey, who wants to be an Arab?

No offense intended!

Come on, lighten up people, it was just a joke! :x
