The dust kind of hangs in the air.

Water runs down from the windmill on the hill to fill this tank.

Saddletramp is putting on a hot iron year brand "6" with an electric iron.

Each heifer gets a new permanent number tag
Plusacorrespondingbuttonnumbertagin.jpg

Plus a corresponding button number tag in the other ear. We leave their calfhood tag in place to help us remember the background of each heifer.
Hardworkingcrew.jpg

Hard-working crew. Each heifer also got three vaccinations, Alpha-7, Scourgard 4K, and Bova-Shield GOLD FP 5 VL5, along with "Clean-Up" (an insecticice pour-on with IGR, for lice control). Earlier this fall, when we preg-checked, they got injectable Dectomax. They are beginning to look like pin-cushions. :?

Saved our ear tag money on this one

It's starting to get dark.
Thesunisgoingdown.jpg

The sun is going down. We had to drive the heifers back to their pasture in the dark. We didn't get done, so left the rest of the bunch in the corral on hay for the night.

Looks like a long day of hard work. It looked dry too. Didn't you guys get part of the precip. that moved through the state Wed-Fri? Maybe that was just in the south.

We went to my brother's for the holiday, and got to tour his operation. He's working at the Colorado State Eastern Research Ranch. So a lot of paperwork goes into his daily work. But they have a pretty nice set-up, and the squeeze chutes are indoors, out of the elements. :)

Really enjoyed your shots. Give my love and a big hug to Peach Blossom.

Good to hear from you, Miss N. Sounds like your brother gets to work in a pretty sophisticated set-up. Around here, we just have to listen to the weather report and plan accordingly. Oh, and we don't do much extra paperwork either. :-) Hope to get our job done tomorrow before the weather cools off considerably the next day.

Tell your family hi from us.
