Looks like we could be getting another shot at a winter storm- altho again the heaviest is believed will stay south of the Missouri...I was lamenting missing out on the moisture of last weeks storm until I saw a couple of the pictures of the slop and calves Sam posted on his website from Sarpy Creek in the southern part of the state.....
If I had my druthers, I'd druther have a nice warm 3 day rain.....

-------------------------------------------------------------------

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GLASGOW HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH MONDAY
EVENING.

6 TO 9 INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE ACROSS THE AREA. SNOW WILL
DEVELOP FROM WEST TO EAST ACROSS THE AREA FROM LATE MONDAY MORNING
THROUGH EARLY MONDAY AFTERNOON. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR THE
SNOW TO FALL HEAVILY AT TIMES MONDAY AFTERNOON AND MONDAY EVENING.
THE SNOW WILL TAPER OFF FROM WEST TO EAST LATE MONDAY NIGHT.
THERE IS STILL SOME UNCERTAINTY AS TO WHERE THE HEAVIEST BANDS OF
SNOW WILL SET UP...WHICH WILL GREATLY IMPACT LOCAL SNOWFALL
TOTALS. IN ADDITION TO THE SNOW...A NORTHEAST WIND OF 15 TO 25
MPH WILL PRODUCE AREAS OF DRIFTING SNOW.

When the Mormons meet the heavens weep. Think we had 2 inches of rain last night and today of while I was feeding. Cloudy but nice this afternoon. Few cows and calves waded snow and got on a creekbank and went wandering almost up to the replacement hiefers, was just about to catch a horse. They went back and I shut a gate to that hay meadow.

We're supposed to get that snow here in MN on Tuesday. Had half a foot of wet slush fall today, can't be much tougher weather for the calves. So far no major problems but I don't know how much of this they can take.

I don't know about your southern calves, kph, but our nothern
calves can take a lot. Get them up and sucking and they are pretty
indestructible.

Here is our current weather forcast:
Today...Snow developing. Windy and colder. Snow accumulation around 3 inches. Highs in the upper 30s. East winds 10 to 20 mph in the morning shifting to the northeast 15 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.

Here is our current weather forcast:

Tonight...Snow in the evening...Then snow likely overnight. Snow accumulation around 1 inch. Lows in the mid 20s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation 90 percent.

Tuesday...Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of snow. Highs in the mid 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph.

Tuesday Night...Partly cloudy. Lows around 16. North winds 5 to 15 mph.

How do ya'll keep from getting that Seasonal Affective Disorder? It stays SOOOOO cold & wintery for sooooooo long?

Well I have 6 kids

There are a lot of folks who have it Kola.... It is hard to tell with some of the livestock guys becuase they are calving too so you don't know if it is no sleep or the other thing.. That being said, it is cold and winter that causes it.. It is sun vs clouds.. We get a little of the winter blahs around here but we are cloudy for much of the winter.. Never had that problem out west where it seemed to be sunny everyday.. OF course, maybe it was because I was younger back than as well... They show some crazy arsed ideas for it on the nes sometimes.. Little goggles with some sort of flashing light that stimulate seratonin levels and things like that..

How do you think the Canucks got to be the makers of such fine whiskey :???: And we import so much to Montana-- Stay bright and sunny all the time......

Temp is 36- no snow yet- but that 30 mph northeast wind makes it feel 20 Below- cuts right thru you...And my old buddy Arther Itis is talking nasty to me again this morning- couldn't sleep half the night....

Interesting trivia fact on the radio this morning- the average age of ranchers in Montana is now 60.... :(

Now see OT if you were in the Sunny South today you could be sitting out in temps about 75 or so right now....in the sun with your ' beverage', your Bermuda shorts and baking away those aches and pains!!!

There are days- Yep there are days... Dream of the sunny south- then I remember how many zillions of people there are down there and this country seems a lot better to me.....

Not everywhere are shoulder to shoulder people. There are still some pretty remote places here.

The South is NOT Atlanta!!! So many people say to me when I say I'm from Ga..." Oh you live in Atl then?".....HELL NO!!

Last I checked NW MN beats SE MT on the "up nort'" scale.

Some of the old mommas are smart too...I only had 2 calves born so far today in the cold, wind, and snow- first one came in around the buildings and windbreak and had hers out of the wind there- then after he sucked laid down with him and had him snug as a bug...Second cow I saw take off west while I was feeding- went out later and couldn't see her...Drove around the meadow and could not see her...Finally saw ears sticking out of a deep washout/drainage area...Walked over and there she was with a new baby trying to suck- completely out of that wicked wind...Didn't even climb down there to try and tag it- didn't want to rile her up and have her move somewhere else- I'll catch it when mom brings him out to the end of the washout...( And not sure if I could get out of the washout once I got down in it    )

Looks like we missed most of the storm- just a little snow that didn't even get the ground wet, and cold and wind-- weather boys have dropped all the watches as most snow is going east and south of us- which is OK with me, but I hope this isn't how our moisture pattern for the summer is going to shape up......
