This was prompted by Soapweeds stories about vets. One of our local vets is a pretty quick thinker and character. He did lots of work for this particular ranch. He was called to preg a mare. The proprietor told our vet "as much work as I give you, you ought to preg this mare for free" The veteranian agrèd to check the mare free of charge. After the project was completed, the men went in the house and coffees up. They visited a lot, and then as the vet took his leave. When he got in his truck, our rancheŕ says you never did tell me if that mare is in foal." The vet replies "I checked her for free, but if you want to know what I found out, that will cost you!" The rancher chuckled and got out his checkbook.
