Any idea what this stuff is?

This stuff is in our burn area, which has gotten around 2 inches of rain in the past two weeks, and also found in the road ditch, along a busy reservation road. Lazy Ace does not recall seeing it yesterday, and I took these pictures this morning. There were no tracks, human or vehicle, going to the mysterious stuff....so any ideas? We're thinking of digging some up, and see how deep it is in the soil. We appreciate any ideas or help you might offer.

It is a fungus growing in the organic material. We have the same thing grow in our bark mulch. It at first glance looks like varmit scat but it is plantlife in its most basic form.

Is this an area that you've fed hay in, and then burned? We've had similar moldy lookin stuff where we've fed and then burnt the left over mess on the ground in the spring, then after a rain it'll do that.
