We have all of our calf crop on the ground for this year. Our bull has covered our cows for two years now, but we had a very young bull running with our cows for a few months, both are black. We have red angus that had a black calf last year and a red calf this year and and some that had a dark reddish brown. We also had charolais that had a white calf, not the smoky gray color that we were expecting. Others turned out black and still others are like a dark bay horse.
Just curious about the gene thing.
We ended up with a colorful bunch!!

Do you have a long term goal in mind, such as a specific breed and uniformity? Also, how long is a few months for a breeding season? If you're running some random crosses, there's not much predictability.

Two words you need to study and learn the meaning of; Heterozygous & Homozygous. Once you do, the physical attributes (Horns -Color, etc. will fall into place.

Ya, I think if guy's gave as much thought to the genetics of the little sweety they're hot for as they do about bulls they're interested in, there wouldn't be so many dingbats in the whirld. Them's my thoughts.
