I've been looking at the Stihl one-man auger, anyone have experience with it? Tractor Supply has one (probably Chinese) for much less money, but I'm sure much less quality. It looke like Pengo makes bigger augers then Stihl sells. One thing the Stihl has is a brake so you don't go for a ride.

I have a Shaver HD-10 and a land pride auger mounted on our tractor bucket to do pilot holes. I want a little smaller diameter for pilot holes, plus I think it will be faster to do the hole with the smaller auger and save time moving the tractor around. I would also be able to drill where I can't go with the tractor. The other thing is if I have a a fence where I have just a couple of posts to set, it's not worth hooking up the driver.

So called "one man augers" or even "two man augers" are bought and furnished to someone else to use.

I guess it really depends on your ground. Around here, a two man auger will give two men a real workout.

It wouldn't work everywhere, but here in the sand we set most of our line post with this.

We have had an Earth Quake auger from Menards for 6 years. Its the same one that tractor supply sells. We have had no problems with it. We like it alot, has dug many holes in minnesota soil. We have done alot of hard work with it and it hangs in there.

I have had a Stihl digger for 4 yrs. It has dug lots of holes and have not had any problems with it..much faster and easier digging than with a hand digger in our hard ground.

It is significantly more expensive, the main difference I see is the brake switch instead of springs on the auger. Is there really anything else that puts it over other brands? One thing I noticed is that it looks like you can purchase Pengo CS series augers for it, much more of a selection then Stihl has. I don't think they fit the brands with the spring system, will fit the Stihl. The largest they have I think is 18" by 42". I got to out the region rep's demo in the warehouse yesterday, feels good but doesn't tell you how it really works. I wonder how it would work with these after market larger augers, I guess it depends on the soil.

Rent a skidloader and an auger you could dig a 1000 holes in one day with one. I hired a guy to dig corral post holes he did a 130 holes in a little over an hour. The work was setting all the ties before the ground froze that evening.

I already have one for the tractor bucket plus a driver, I'm looking for a portable unit.
