Anyone in the field yet?

We're holding off as long as possible. All we plant is for rejuvenating hay land, and so we plant oats as a first crop and as a cover crop the second year (or the third, if we add a year to the process).
I hate having the oats turning colour while I'm still cutting hay, so I feel it will be plenty early if it's in the ground by the 20th of may.
Some folks started planting wheat in the area on Apr 17 this year. The guy we got our seed oats from was one of them. I don't know anything about cereal cropping but he claimed a 5 degree seed bed is all you need, and his was at 7.

For a pasture blend have you ever used any Cicer Milk Vetch?

Anybody?

We have are alfalfa, oats and corn planted and will start planting beans this afternoon. We will probably start haying the end of next week. Do any of you have any experience with remount sanfoin? I am curious to try it. Mel

I put in a small field of Melrose Sanfoin about 30 years ago. I thought it had been choked out by Crested Wheat years ago but with the return of some wetter years it has showed up again. :D I do notice a few plants along the road ditch even. Not sure how it compares to Remount but this sanfoin liked dry feet. :D
